GSAPS is pleased to announce a new research collaboration led by Professor Tomoo Kikuchi under the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) Research Collaboration Program. The study, titled “Regional Trade Network and Local Currency Use in ASEAN+3,” is a joint project featuring Lien Pham, a 3rd-year Ph.D. student at GSAPS, and Cyn-Young Park, Executive Director at the SEACEN Centre. As geoeconomic shifts restructure global supply chains and challenge US dollar dominance, this project introduces a critical regional network perspective to policy circles. By utilizing innovative counterfactual modeling, the team will analyze how different paths of regional integration affect home-currency invoicing. The project aims to deliver data-driven insights to strengthen East Asian payment connectivity and enhance resilience against external monetary shocks.
