As part of the academic collaboration between Waseda University and The University of Birmingham, UK, we are happy to announce that Professor Michaela Mahlberg and Senior Lecturer Paul Thomson from The University of Birmingham Centre for Corpus Research will be giving special lectures at a Symposium on Corpus Insights into Academic and Literary Discourse. Dr. Mahlberg serves as Chief Editor of the International Journal of Corpus Linguistics, and is known worldwide for her research on the relationship between lexis and grammar and the way in which meaning is constructed in classical literature such as the works of Charles Dickens. Dr. Thompson serves as Co-Editor of the Journal of English for Academic Purposes. He is also known worldwide for his many ground-breaking research projects that have focused on identifying unique features that characterize the language of different specialized fields.
