Why did you choose Waseda University?
I was from Henan province, and graduated from Tsinghua University in Beijing . I have found the scholarship information which will support my study at Waseda through internet. Although this is the first time for me to go abroad, I have been interested in studying in another country as well as learning another culture. I decided to come to purse my master’s degree at Waseda University, since Waseda University is very famous in China as well as in Asia. Also when I decided to study at Waseda University, it was very important factor for me that Faculty of Science and Engineering had offered English-based graduate programs regarding my major of automobiles, since I did not have Japanese language skills before coming to Japan.
How is your life in Japan and Waseda? How is the relationship with your supervisor, with your laboratory member?
I belong to Prof. KUSAKA’s laboratory at Waseda University. There are over 20 students of B.S. 4, M.S.1, M.S.2 and Ph.d Students, and some of them are international students from U.S.A. and India etc. Prof. KUSAKA is very nice to me and gives me detailed research instructions in English and supports me from the beginning. Students in the same lab help me when I ask for their helps. I can take classes and write reports in English, so it is not difficult for me to study here at Waseda University. If I cannot communicate with Japanese students in English, I sometimes use a translation software through internet, and sometimes I have fun lunch time with them after class. I usually come to take classes and receive research instructions from Monday through Friday, and spend time in a library for my researches after classes.
How is your life in Japan and Waseda?
I sometimes take part in events held by ICC/International Community Center of Waseda University. I play basketball with team mates from Waseda and other universities, both Japanese and international students in every 2 weeks. On weekend, I go shopping, have parties with my Chinese friends, visit some places in, and around Tokyo for sightseeing with my friend.
What is your Future Plan?
I do not decide yet whether I will advance to Ph.D course or have a job after my graduation from master’s program. I wish to have a career in automobile industries in China.I think it is a great advantage for me that automobile industries in China look for employees/researchers who are used to Japanese culture. I think in the future I hope to find a job which connects Japan and China.
