Abstract:
COVID 19 pandemic gives rise to unprecedented shocks to global economy. Both of North and South Korean economies are also much affected by COVID 19 pandemic and experiencing structural economic changes. The special lecture begins with a broad introduction of South Korean economy. In terms of GDP and inflation, we investigate how COVID 19 pandemic changes Korean economy. We also see unexpected, interesting episodes in Korea over pandemic like Korean consumer’s huge buy on luxury items in Pandemic period. Then we see North Korean economy’s situation before and after COVID 19 pandemic. Even though North Korean government says that North Korea is free from COVID 19 pandemic until recently, we find that COVID 19 pandemic gave a serious shock to North Korean economy by employing various data available.
