Issuance of Certificates

As for issuance of certificates for double degree students, please click here.

As listed below, some certificates are available by vending machines on campus. The fee is ¥200 per copy for the current students, ¥300 for others. Some certificates are available from the SILS office as follows, in some cases at no fee.

*Certificates which are not available by vending machines may require several days to issue depending on the content.

*Certificate of commuter pass
In order to buy a commuter pass from a private bus company, you need to have certificate to show that you commute. Please get the certificate at the SILS office.

In order to buy a commuter pass for JR, private railway companies (e.g., Keio, Odakyu) , or the Metropolitan Railway Company (subway), you need only to show your student ID card to buy one at the station. Therefore, the SILS office does not issue the Certificate of Commute for railway passes.

*Student discounts
Student discount coupons are available for long distance (more than 100 km) travel on JR. We can issue up to 4 coupons in one day, 10 coupons in total in the 1 year period from April to March. The coupon is valid for 3 months.

How to Apply for Certificates

There are 4 ways to apply for the certificates.

  • A) Issuing by vending machine (for current students only)

  • E) Procedure by Proxy Person

Applications are NOT accepted by telephone, FAX, or E-mail.

A) Issuing by vending machine (for current students only)

Required Materials

  1. Student ID
  2. Password (Waseda-net Password)
  3. Fees

B) Procedure at the SILS office

Please bring the following materials:

  1. Your ID (Driver‘s License, Passport, Health Insurance Card, etc.)
  2. Fees

The certificates are available on the same day in principle. However, certificates that are not available by vending machine or certificates with a designated format make take up to several days to issue.

C) Procedure by Domestic Postal Mail

Please send the following materials to the SILS office. In principle, the certificate(s) will be shipped on the next business day. However, certificates that are not available by vending machine or certificates with a designated format may take up to several days to issue. Please send your request by express mail if circumstances require it.

    The following information is required if the prescribed form is not used.
    Student ID number, name, graduation date, date of birth, name of certificate, number of copies, language of the certificate (Japanese or English), request to seal certificate (if necessary),Email address, daytime telephone number, and your address (where to be sent)
  2. A Copy of your ID
    *Your iditification document should not pass its expiration date.
  3. Total amount of handling fee by Teigaku Kogawase (定額小為替),which is available at the post office
  4. Return-mail envelope with your address and stamps.
    If you need a large number of certificates, please use a large (12cm×23.5cm) envelope for return.

D) Procedure by International Mail

    Please buy “International POSTAL Money Order” or “International Reply Coupon” for the total of issuance fees and postage at the Post office.
  • “International POSTAL Money Order” is NOT available in CANADA and THAILAND.
  • One sheet of “International Reply Coupon” is equivalent to 130 yen.

E) Procedure by proxy Person

From the aspect of the privacy protection, Waseda University do not accept any applications from other than our students; however, university accepts applications by proxy person in the cases of emergency.
