【Saturday, October 11】SILS ART PROJECT 2025. Plato’s Symposium: On Love

The SILS Art Project 2025 will feature one of the timeless classics of ancient philosophy: Plato’s The Symposium – On Love. Through the various views expressed by its characters, the work explores what it means to fall in love, revealing that humans, as mortal beings, cannot help but seek what is immortal.
For this project, the play will be performed in English by Waseda University students selected through an open call on campus. They will bring new life to this classic.
After the performance, an English-language workshop will be held with Professor Noburu Notomi from the University of Tokyo, Professor Tomohiko Kondo from the University of Keio, both noted scholars of Plato. The workshop will offer deeper insights into Plato’s thought and the cultural background of the work. Both the performance and the workshop will include Japanese translation and commentary, so those who are not confident in English can also participate comfortably.
We warmly welcome students, faculty, staff, and anyone interested in literature, philosophy, and theater. Join us for a stimulating and memorable experience!
