Students are able to acquire language skills at an academic level while deepening their professional knowledge
I had studied French as a second foreign language since entering high school and continued to take it as a second foreign language at SILS. In my sophomore year, I was scheduled to study abroad at Science-po Lyon, France, to study international relations and European politics in a more practical way, however, it was cancelled due to the Corona disaster. In the meantime, the APM class allowed me to experience studying abroad in France in a pseudo-study abroad experience. I was able to take classes on populism, French politics, French-Japanese political comparisons, and international relations. Classes were small and included lectures, discussions, and role-plays. I was sometimes worried about whether I would be able to keep up with the level of my French when I first started the course, but I was able to attend the classes with peace of mind because the classes were planned to proceed smoothly according to each student’s level. I think APM courses are very attractive courses that can be taken not only to maintain language skills after studying abroad, but also to prepare for study abroad.
