英語一択じゃない。専門的な知識を習得しながら、実践的な語学運用能力を身に着けることができる。
関心のある政治学を英語以外の言語で学んでみたいという思いから、留学先にフランスのリヨン第三大学を選びました。帰国後、語学力維持のために様々なフランス語関連の授業を検討しましたが、フランス語と政治学を同時に学ぶことができるという点でAPM*の授業に特に強く惹かれて履修しました。フランス語の記事やニュースを同世代の学生達と読み解くことで、語彙力を上げるだけでなく、フランスの時事問題についてより理解を深めることができました。少人数制の授業だったため、教授と学生間の距離が近く、質問やディスカッションを頻繁に行えたのもAPM授業の利点でした。また、フランス及びフランス語圏の留学経験者が多く集まっていたので、現地での留学生活や大学の授業内容について情報収集できる場でもありました。特定の国の言語や文化などを学ぶだけでなく、現地への 留学を考えている学生にとって、APM授業の履修は非常に有益だと考えます。
*APM：2017年度より国際教養学部でスタートしたプログラム。フランス語、スペイン語、中国語、朝鮮語の4言語に焦点をあて、これらの語学習得はもちろんのこと、その言語を用いて、当該国の文化、歴史、経済、政治などを多面的に学ぶCLIL（Content and Language Integrated Learning：内容と言語の両方を合わせて教育する学習方法）教育を展開します。
English medium education is not the only option. Students may acquire practical language skills other than English while absorbing specialized knowledge.
Based on my desire to learn about political science (my interest) in a language other than English, I chose to study at Jean Moulin University Lyon III in France. After returning to Japan, I considered various French-related classes to maintain my language abilities, and was strongly drawn to the APM* classes because I would be able to study French and political science at the same time. By reading articles and news in French with other students of a similar age, I was able to widen my vocabulary, and also deepen my understanding of current events in France. Since class sizes are small, the professors and students are close, enabling frequent questions and discussions, which was another benefit for taking the APM classes. They also served as a place to gather information about life as an international student and the content of university classes, as many of the students had experience studying abroad in France and in Frenchspeaking countries. Taking APM classes is extremely beneficial for students who are thinking of studying abraod outside of Japan as well as learning about that country’s language and culture.
*APM program (Area Studies and Plurilingual/ Multicultural Education Program) is held in French, Spanish, Chinese and Korean and focuses on not only acquiring the language, but also including CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). And student can learn about the target country’s culture, history, economy and politics from different angles in that target language.
