On Saturday, June 21, 2025, SILS Parent’s Day was held at the International Conference Center on Waseda Campus. This event is held every year for the parents or guardians of second-year undergraduate students, allowing them to see what the university is like and learn about the Policy of the School of International Liberal Studies (SILS).

SILS Parent's Day
Approximately 30% of the undergraduate students at the SILS are international students from diverse regions around the world. Japanese-native students are required to study abroad for one year as part of their curriculum.
For this reason, “SILS Parents’ Day”, which is usually held around this time (in June) of the year, is attended by many parents of students who will be studying abroad from this September. About 210 people attended the event in person, while about 200 others joined via the live webinar, providing a valuable opportunity to hear a wide range of opinions and questions.

Greetings from Dean Prof. Satoshi Inaba

Introduction of Associate Deans
During the presentation on “Study Abroad,” the Center for International Education provided a comprehensive overview of the schedule leading up to departure, guidance on how students should utilize their time both before and after studying abroad, the support systems available during their stay, and key considerations upon arrival at their destination.
Following this, the Career Center gave a presentation on the career paths of Waseda students. The session emphasized that current job-hunting practices and timelines are substantially different from those experienced by the students’ parents. Online procedures, the importance of attending Job Fairs in the countries where student study, and the importance of the role of overseas Alumni Associations (Tomonkai) were also mentioned.
During the presentations given by current students and alumni, many questions were asked about student life at the SILS, as well as their experiences studying abroad.

The School of International Liberal Studies (SILS), based on the founding principles set forth by the founder Shigenobu Okuma, is committed to educating students who will contribute to the world.
With much support from parents and students, we will continue to make reforms to meet the needs of students and the changing times. We would like to put even more effort into educating students who can become future world leaders.
