Profile
Professor Masao Hirano joined the faculty at WASEDA Business School in 2012. Prior to WASEDA, Prof. Hirano has an extensive professional background in both private equity investment and management consulting. From 2007 to 2011, he was a Co-Head of Carlyle Japan, one of buy-out funds of a global asset management firm, in which he led a few private equity investments in Japan.
Before then, he was a Director and Japan Office Head of McKinsey & Company. During his 20 years career at McKinsey, he led a number of projects including corporate strategy and globalization, cross boarder M&A, marketing, operational streamlining and organizational design for a variety of companies ranging from high-tech, telecommunication, manufacturing to consumer products, health care and banking. Before joining McKinsey in 1987, he had been a project engineer at JGC Corporation since 1980.
