Research Summary
Under the following four research themes, the research of the Institute of the
Policy of Social Safety (WIPSS) will be conducted on topics of significant social
needs, and collaborative research on the policy of social safety will be carried
out with the aim of contributing to the realization of “a safe society with less
crime and delinquency.”
(Ⅰ ) Research funded by external grants
[Collaborative Research Ⅰ -A] “Research on Regional Collaboration to Protect Children”
[Collaborative Research Ⅰ -B] “Research on Public Safety and Security in Major Cities”
(Ⅱ ) Other research
[Collaborative Research Ⅱ -A] “Study Group on the Diversion Linking Criminal Justice to Welfare”
[Collaborative Research Ⅱ -B] “Research on Juvenile Law in Anglo-American Legal Jurisdictions”
The results of these collaborative research projects will continue to be presented at the Regular Research Meetings held every other month and at other similar opportunities. In addition, the members of our institution will continue to disseminate these results through various media, such as academic journals, including the Bulletin of Waseda Institute of the Policy of Social Safety, and books.
Furthermore, given WIPSS’ s strong institutional continuity, it is appropriate to retain the same name, the“Institute of the Policy of Social Safety,” from October 2026 onward. Research on the policy of social safety will continue to be pursued, building on the research achievements accumulated since the establishment of WIPSS in 2006, and the collaborative research projects currently underway, including those conducted by the Research Group of the Association for the Study of Security Science, are also expected to continue with WIPSS serving as their institutional base. In addition, the Bulletin of Waseda Institute of the Policy of Social Safety will continue to be published, making it important to maintain consistency in its title.
Activity Plan
The results of the joint reseach will be reported at regular research meeting held every other month, and presented in various media, including the “Bulletin of the Waseda Institute of the Policy of Social Safety” and other journals and books, by each researcher.
