With “Contributing to World Humanity through Comprehensive Knowledge” as its ultimate goal, the Institute has established the following three subcommittees to innovate, create, and revitalize democracy in Japan, and will work to solve social problems from the three axes of research, social contribution, and education.

• Electoral System Subcommittee: Transforming Elections

While there have been changes to the electoral system, such as the expansion of online campaigning and the lowering of the voting age, we will undertake a range of activities to improve and refine the electoral system, bearing in mind recent events that have undermined confidence in elections and democracy.

Conjoint experiment-oriented voting advice applications (also known as vote match), proposals for reforming the electoral public administration system, manifesto analysis, election administration reform, and voting behavior research.

• Regional Management Subcommittee: Regional Management

In order to maintain Japan’s democracy and local autonomy in the midst of an aging society with a declining birthrate, the committee will conduct various activities to return Waseda University’s research seeds and human resources to society with a local focus.

Public Attitude Survey, Council Reform Survey, Organizational Management Survey, Book Publication, Manifesto Awards, Local Council Summit, Public Lectures, Citizenship Promotion.

• Public Leadership Development Subcommittee: Cultivating Human Resources

The Public Leadership Development Subcommittee will conduct various activities to develop public-minded leaders who can think independently and formulate correct solutions in these turbulent times when common sense and assumptions are being overturned.
