The certificate of expected graduation can be issued from June 1 (spring semester) and November 10 (fall semester) of the year of completion. Issuance will be suspended for 1 to 2 weeks prior to the start date of each issuance due to the judgment process. Please check the information from the office regarding the suspension period. *If June 1 or November 10 falls on a university holiday or a Saturday, Sunday or national holiday, the issuance will start on the date of the next business day.

Center for International education is in charge regarding the visa matter.
Visa status doesn’t matter to be a student at GSAPS. However, you may need to have a student visa on some occasions, e.g. some scholarship foundations offer scholarship to student visa holders only. Therefore, please take a full responsibility for your visa. In addition, we only offer student visa and no support for any other visa.

This grant is open to the regular graduate school students at Waseda University whose research theme is related to Southeast Asian Studies or Asian Studies. The annual field trip grant is JPY250,000 (maximum) and it will aid maximum about 20 students per year. For further information please kindly refer to the Guidelines.
This grant program supports upper-level undergraduate (4th year or above) and graduate students in conducting research at overseas institutions. Eligible research activities are as follows: study abroad (including exchange programs), internships (unpaid), fieldwork, participation in international consortia, and presenting at an academic society conference or at other international conferences and symposia.
To be eligible for this grant, applicants must satisfy all of the following conditions. Applicants who are taking a leave of absence from Waseda while participating in a study abroad program are eligible for this program. However, research associates and students taking a leave of absence for other reasons are not eligible.
1) Applicant must be ①a regular student enrolled at a graduate school (master’s programs, professional degree courses, doctoral programs) of Waseda University or ②a regular student enrolled at an undergraduate school of Waseda University who is in at least his/her 4th year.
2) Applicant must have a research plan for his/her travel (plan for presentation only also permitted).
The following overseas institutions (hereafter, host institutions) and events are eligible research destinations under this program.
a) Universities, international organizations, research institutions, corporations, NGOs and NPOs, and other international organizations.
*However, institutions are limited to those at which applicants can find a party to host them and provide a signed “Hosting Party Approval Letter.” See Section 6 below for further details.
b) International consortia formed by academic exchange agreements between Waseda University and universities overseas(APRU, ASEAN+3 UNet, U21, VIU, etc.)
c) Academic society *1 conferences and international conferences or symposia *2
*Students must present (poster sessions included) at these events; participation alone is not supported under this program.
*1: Academic societies: research organizations that have bylaws and a membership list.
*2: International conferences or symposia: conferences or symposia attended by participants from two or more countries.
1) A maximum of 110,000 yen is available to cover ①costs of roundtrip airfare (economy class) *3 to the airport closest to the host institution as well as ②costs of accommodations (. In principle, funds can only be utilized to cover costs incurred during the period of the student’s stay at the host institution (There is a maximum amount according to university’s regulations.) or the duration of a program/academic conference) plus travel days.
*3: If air travel is difficult, train fare (roundtrip train fare to the station closest to the host institution) or ship fare (roundtrip ship fare to the port closest to the host institution) may also be covered.
2) For research events c) above, a separate funding amount will be provided to cover students’ international conference paper presentation registration fees. A maximum of 55,000 yen will be available regardless of whether the conference takes place in Japan or overseas or on-line. *4
*4: Only academic society conference participation costs may be covered with this funding. However, this includes any fees for publishing a paper in the academic society’s journal. Some other fees may also be included, such as those for visa application, postal transfer, and remittance. However, this funding cannot be used to cover costs associated with receptions and other social gatherings.
3) The same student is eligible to receive funding under this program up to once per fiscal year.

These subsidies are intended to cover part of the costs incurred by doctoral program students (including 5-year Doctoral Program) and Graduate Program for Embodiment Informatics, Power Energy Professionals Program related to research activities, including photocopying documents necessary for research, academic society participation fees and annual membership fees, and fees for the submission of research papers.
Graduate school doctoral program students (excluding research associates, students who are receiving funds from JSPS Research Fellowships for Young Scientists DC program, and students taking a year off from school) are eligible for these subsidies.
Please choose one from the following four items:
Cost of photocopying (a copy card will be supplied), academic society meeting participation fee, academic society annual membership fee, fee for submission of a research paper.
Eligible students can receive JPY 5,000 per year.
Even if the amount applied for is less than 5,000 yen, one student may only apply once a year.
