The Standard Curriculum Period: 3 years
※This does not guarantee your completion of Ph.D. program in 3 years.
Course Requirements: Students are required to complete “Introduction to Academic and Research Integrity (For Humanities and Social Science)” by the end of their first year of the Ph.D. program

*When you complete submission, you will receive an automatic reply, but the GSAPS Office will contact you after confirming each document. Please check your contact email address.
*Please contact the Office ([email protected]) in advance before your submission.
*Documents that require submission of originals must be submitted by the time of final submission.
(Data submission is acceptable for the time of first submission.)

Format of each document
*As for the documents from No.1 to No.4, please submit Scanned PDF file (printed and signed if necessary)
*Make an arrangent with your supervisor for their signatures in advance.
*Both “5.Doctoral Thesis” and “6.Summary of Doctoral Thesis (English)” should be in PDF/A format.
Please refer to the link for the instructions how to convert Word file to PDF/A file.
*There is no specific format for “5.Doctoral Thesis”, so please consult with your supervisor for the format.
Original copies
As for the documents marked in “Original Copy”, their original copies MUST be submitted due to the University regulations.
Data files are accepted at the time of the first submission, but you must submit the original documents (1 copy) by the designated deadline set at a later timing.

Research Ethics
Taking “Research Ethics” is one of the requirements for submittion of doctoral thesis. Please read here carefully and follow the appropreate method.
For current students
While you are enrolled, it is required to register for the regular course “Introduction to Academic and Research Integrity (For Humanities and Social Science)“offered by the Global Education Center(GEC) and obtain the credits. If you already completed the course “Research Ethics/Introduction to Research Ethics (On-demand)” by AY 2021 and earned its credits, you don’t need to take “Introduction to Academic and Research Integrity (For Humanities and Social Science)“. This course will be automatically registered until the credit is granted. If you fail this course, please be sure to check the course registration system on the day the course registration results are announced to confirm that the course has been registered. Please refer to here for information on how to check the registration results.
For more detailed information on the course, please also refer to the dedicated website.
Students who begin their studies in 2024 or later are required to complete the course before submitting their research plans.
Certificates
Below is the information on certificates that can be issued for those who completed/withdrew the PhD program.
For those who completed
- Certificate of completion(certifies completion of research supervision, pass of dissertation, and degree conferral)
- Certificate of degree conferral(with Waseda diploma number/MEXT registration number)
- Transcript of academic record
- Transcript of academic record and certificate of completion(For those obtained degree while enrolled)
*The sample is available in the Office.
For those who withdrew after completing the PhD program requirements apart from dissertation
- Certificate of withdrawal(Certifies that the person completed the doctoral requirements except for the submission of the dissertation)

For those obtained degree while enrolled

How to Search Thesis
◆ Theses registered with Waseda University Repository
Theses which are given permission from the author to be published after academic year 2002 can be searched and fully viewed on WINE and the Waseda University Repository.
(It usually takes two to three months after degree conferment (March/September) to register a thesis with Waseda University Repository.)
◆ Theses not registered with Waseda University Repository
・Theses not registered with Waseda University Repository can be searched using the WINE system.

・To access non-registered theses, you must file the appropriate request with the Central Library.
