・dissertation/summary: PDF file
・Other documents: Scanned PDF file (printed and signed if necessary)
*A photo should be attached for Applicafion for Doctoral Degree
*Make an arrangent with your supervisor so that they can sign in the Office after your submission
*Non-PDF format (ex. JPEG, Word) cannot be accepted.

(When you complete submission, you will receive an automatic reply, but the GSAPS Office will contact you after confirming each document. Please check your contact email address.)

<Original copies >
As for the documents listed below, their original copies MUST be submitted due to the University regulations.
Data files are accepted at the time of the first submission, but you must submit the original documents by the designated deadline set at a later timing.

Research Ethics

Taking “Research Ethics” is one of the requirements for submittion of doctoral thesis. Please read here carefully and follow the appropreate method.

For current students

While you are enrolled, it is required to register for the regular course “Research Ethics/Introduction to Research Ethics (On-demand)” offered by the Global Education Center(GEC) and obtain the credits. Register for the course during the course registration period set at the beginning of every semester, complete it and obtain the credits.

If you intend to withdraw from the program with the status of “completing the Doctoral Program requirements except for submission of dissertation” (研究指導終了による退学), you need to obtain the credit before withdrawal.

For those who withdrawed from the program with the status of “completing the Doctoral Program requirements except for submission of dissertation” (研究指導終了による退学) before September 2016

To take the course, registration is required. Please fill in the application form available below and send them to the GSAPS office by mail ([email protected]). The office will get in touch for further registration process necessary.

Research Performance RecordTwice a year

All the PhD students are required to submit this report twice a year (End of June and End of November) as PhD. students’ obligation.
How to submit: Please complete the registration form from this URL. (This URL is available in only June and November.)


Below is the information on certificates that can be issued for those who completed/withdrew the PhD program.

For those who completed

  • Certificate of completion(certifies completion of research supervision, pass of dissertation, and degree conferral)
  • Certificate of degree conferral(with Waseda diploma number/MEXT registration number)
  • Transcript of academic record
  • Transcript of academic record and certificate of completion(For those obtained degree while enrolled)
    *The sample is available in the Office.

For those who withdrew after completing the PhD program requirements apart from dissertation

  • Certificate of withdrawal(Certifies that the person completed the doctoral requirements except for the submission of the dissertation)
  • Transcript of academic record

For those who withdrew

  • Certificate of withdrawal
  • Transcript of academic record

When to be obtained

For those obtained degree while enrolled

March completion⇒On and after 15 March
September completion⇒On and after 15 September

For those who withdrew after completing the PhD program requirements apart from dissertation

March completion⇒after the committee meeting in Feb *On and after 15 March for Certificate of degree conferral
September completion⇒after the committee meeting in July * On and after 15 September for Certificate of degree conferral

How to Search Theses

 Theses registered with Waseda University Repository
Theses which are given permission from the author to be published after academic year 2002 can be searched and fully viewed on WINE and the Waseda University Repository.
It usually takes two to three months after degree conferment (March/September) to register a thesis with Waseda University Repository.

 Theses not registered with Waseda University Repository
Theses not registered with Waseda University Repository can be searched using the WINE system.
