2016年10月24日・25日、早稲田大学はベルギー・ブリュッセルにあるエグモントパレスにて、「2016 EU-Japan Forum」を開催しました。このイベントは、ブリュッセル自由大学（ULB）、ルーヴァン・カトリック大学との共催で、ベルギーと日本の友好150周年と、早稲田大学のブリュッセルオフィスの開設を記念したものです。
このフォーラムの目的は、日本・欧州の研究者および実務家が顔を合わせ、設定された理系・文系10分野（下記 Round Table 参照）ごとにその分野の専門家同士が議論を行い、対話を深めることです。2日間にわたって、10分野についてのラウンドテーブルが行われました。
各ラウンドテーブルに先立ち、オープニングにおいては「EXPERT PANEL ON THE STATE OF THE EU-JAPAN PARTNERSHIP」のテーマのもと、公開制のセッションを実施しました。ここには欧州連合日本政府代表部特命全権大使・兒玉和夫氏も出席し、欧州と日本の関係の重要性を力説しました。
またクロージングにおいては、ベルギーと日本の友好150周年を記念して、「ANNIVERSARY PANEL ON 150 YEARS OF BELGO-JAPANESE DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS」のテーマのもと、日本・ベルギー関係の専門家による基調講演が行わました。外交官として駐ベルギー大使・石井正文氏が、近年の日本・ベルギー関係について講演しました。
