Guide to Entrance Procedures

This guide is to inform those who will enroll in April 2026 of the entrance procedures #2 to be completed prior to enrollment. Please read it carefully to complete the necessary procedures by the designated date.

GSAPS Academic Orientation

GSAPS Academic Orientation for all new students will be held via online [Zoom] with the following schedule.
*All times are in Japan Standard Time (JST).

For Regular Students   Date:  March 27 (Fri.) 2026

Time Category Contents
10:30 – 11:30 AM Academic Orientation (General) Introduction to GSAPS faculty members/Information on Waseda University events and available services.
11:40 – 12:55 AM Orientation for each program Academic orientation will be provided by GSAPS faculty members/office for each program separately: Master’s Program (Japanese), Master’s Program (English), and Ph.D. Program. This orientation will also provide guidance on course registration procedures, credit transfer, and scholarship applications.
1:25 PM – Project Research Seminar Orientation The schedule and time for each seminar orientation will be announced by the GSAPS office via email later. In some cases, the orientation may be held on a different day from the Academic Orientation.
  • If you are unable to attend on the day of the orientation, you may check the materials at a later date.
  • The details of the orientation (Zoom link, meeting ID, password, etc.) will be announced to students via email about a week before the orientation from the GSAPS office. Please check your email regularly for updates.
  • An individual meeting with your professor will not be held in advance. Each professor will give the information about it at the respective project research seminar orientation.

For Non-Degree Students

Non-degree students are required to attend the following orientations.

March 30 (Mon.) 2026   Time: 10:30 – 11:30 AM Orientation for non-degree students. Details will be announced to applicable students separately.

*Details of Orientations (venue, Zoom link, meeting ID, password, etc.) will be announced to students via email about a week before the orientation from the GSAPS office.

GSAPS Welcome Party

We will host a Welcome Party for new students on Thursday, April 9, from 12:00 to 14:00!

Almost all new students participate every year, enjoying the opportunity to network and socialize with senior students as well as fellow newcomers. Registration in advance is required, so please refer to the poster below for further details.
*Please note that participation requires a student ID card, which will be available for pickup at the GSAPS Office starting April 1.

Credit Transfer for Courses Taken Before Admission (MA only) If you would like to apply for Credit Transfer for Courses Taken Before Admission, please check the page. Course Registration Manual (The spring 2026 semester version is scheduled to be released around the early March.) The basic information of Course Registration is explained in this manual. The details will be explained at the orientation as well. Waseda Mail Address

Waseda Mail address (~@~.waseda.jp) is required to access MyWaseda, the portal site of Waseda University. If you do not have a Waseda Mail address, you will not be able to receive any emails related to the course registration nor will be able to register courses on MyWaseda. Following the instruction on the Guide to Entrance Procedures, be sure to set up a Waseda Mail address during the designated period [March 27 (Fri.)-March 29 (Sun.), 2026].

Student ID Card

Student ID card will be available for pickup at the GSAPS Office starting April 1 (Wed.), 2026. (Office open hours: 10:00-16:00 Mon.-Fri.)
*Please bring your Photo ID when you visit the office.
*If you are residing outside Japan at that point, please pick it up after you enter Japan.
*The student ID card will be picked up only by the student him/herself.

Entrance Ceremony

Entrance Ceremony Please check the link above for the University-Wide Entrance Ceremony. As GSAPS doesn't hold its own entrance ceremony, please join the University-Wide Entrance Ceremony if you would like to.

Student Health Check-up

From Health Support Center, Waseda University Regular Health Check-up for Regular Students (AY2026) will be announced in late March.

Information on Visas & Status of Residence

For International Students Who Have GSAPS Apply for COE on Their Behalf:

The GSAPS Admissions Office will send out your COE as soon as we receive it from the Immigration Bureau. After your COE is issued, please regularly contact your nearest Japanese embassy or consulate for the updated information regarding visa application and follow their instructions. How to Apply for Part-Time Work Permit at the Airport Form of Application for Permission to Engage in Activity Other than that Permitted Under the Status of Residence Previously Granted How to Get Your “Residence Certificate (住民票)”
For International Students Residing in Japan:

If you need to get your period of stay extended or change the status of residence, please contact the Center for International Education (CIE) and prepare the necessary documents.  If you need a paper version of the ‘Certificate of Admission’ (original) to apply for it at the immigration bureau, please contact the GSAPS Admissions Office to request it. You can apply from 3 months prior to the expiration date on your residence card. For the other required documents and the detailed procedures, please click below and check the webpages of CIE.
