Waseda University Library provides Interlibrary Loans Services (ILL) mainly for student, faculty and staff in the university.
If materials you wish to browse are not available at the library you are using in Waseda or on the WEB, you can request ordering actual materials or photocopies from other libraries both on and off campus. The services may differ depending on the user’s status, also due to agreements with other libraries.
For visiting off-campus libraries, please refer to Using non-Waseda Libraries.
Waseda University Library is not open to the public. So please consult for using to your university/ institution’s library or public library.
You can order to borrow an actual material which is held in another Waseda library. But basically, this service is only for between libraries at a distance.
* Open college members of Extension Center can order only Central and Toyama Library materials which are stored separately in Honjo Deposit Library.
* Waseda Supporters Club members can order only Central Library materials which are stored separately in Honjo Deposit Library.
* If you need to use a material which is “Not loanable”, consider to visit the holding library or to use an ordering photocopies service.
* Transferred Materials from Honjo Deposit Library must be used within the library designated as the receiving place.

Even the status of the book you requested is shown as “Available: Item in place” on WINE, sometimes it can happen that the actual book cannot be found on the bookshelf.

* The books which status is “Available: Items in place” are not included.
* For a material which is not available for making a photocopy by another reason, consider to visit the holding library.
* You will receive the photocopies in exchange for payment of the fee.
* It can be paid from internal funds such as Individual Research Allowance. However, please pay attention to the balance, especially at the end of academic year.
* You cannot apply for this service from WINE.
* Open college members of Extension Center can order only Central and Toyama Library materials which are stored separately in Honjo Deposit Library.

Transferring books to Higashifushimi Campus Office (Building No.79, STEP22) is available by the following procedures.
Statuses as below, and those who have a base of academic activities at Higasifushimi campus.
* Materials which the statuses are “Not loanable” on WINE (e.g. journals, newspapers, etc.) are not available.
No charge
* You cannot make a request from WINE.
* Since the book will be sent to Higashifushimi Campus Office after the checking out process at the holding library, the borrowing period will be shorter due to the transferring days.
Transferring books to the office of Center for Advanced Biomedical Sciences is available by the following procedures.
Statuses as below, and those who have a base of academic activities the Center for Advanced Biomedical Sciences (TWIns).
* Material which the statuses are “Not loanable” on WINE (e.g. journals, newspapers, etc.) are not available.
No charge
* You cannot make a request from WINE.
* Since the book will be sent to the office of Center for Advanced Biomedical Sciences after the checking out process at the holding library, the borrowing period will be shorter due to the transferring days.
Transferring materials to Kitakyushu Campus is available by the following procedures. The following services are provided under the cooperation with Media Center at Kitakyushu Science and Research Park.
Faculty, staff and student of the “Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems” or “Information, Production and Systems Research Center”
You can make requests of interlibrary loans for materials owned by Waseda University Library through Media Center.

* Materials which the statuses are “Not loanable” on WINE (e.g. journals, newspapers, etc.) are not available.
* If the item is not currently available (e.g. the status is “On loan until …”) on WINE, please submit a request to Media Center when the status has changed to “Available: Item in place”. Please note that do not place a hold on the item on WINE, if you would like to order it by Interlibrary Loans (ILL) to Kitakyushu.
* Maximum numbers of materials which can be borrowed from Waseda University Library are 30 for graduate student, and 60 for faculty/ staff.
* If the item you borrowed becomes overdue, your next request may be limited. And if the item is lost or damaged during the period of loan, the user may be required to pay for it.

▼Ordering photocopies
* Waseda University Library provides a photocopying service according to Article 31 of the Copyright Law. Users must take all responsibility about the photocopies related to the law.
* A large quantity requests, and a request with a risk that comes into conflict with the law may be rejected.

* If you wish to pay it from internal funds such as Individual Research Allowance, please keep a receipt from Media Center when you pay in advance. And submit it to the office of IPS.

* Please remind that Media Center doesn’t accept returning books you have borrowed from Waseda Libraries directory.
* You cannot ask for a continuous check out procedure at Media Center. In principle, the book you have borrowed must be returned by the due date.
In cases that materials are not available in Waseda, you can make a request for Interlibrary Loans (ILL) to outside the university.

You can request materials from outside the university (other university libraries, NDL and public libraries), if the materials are not available in the environment Waseda provides, or they are not open to the public on the WEB (including NDL Digital Collections).

The Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Libraries is provided by the National Diet Library. Herewith, difficult-to-obtain materials like out-of-print books are available on the computer at Central Library, Waseda University as one of the subscription libraries.

Please note the following;
1) Wash your hands before/after you use books.
2) Mind your casual gestures to try not to touch your face unconciousely while you are reading.
To prevent deterioration of books, the following acts are prohibited.
1) To expose books to sunlight for the purpose of sterilization.
2) To sanitize books with alcohol disinfection, hypocholorous acid water, and so on.

According to the purpose of this delivery service, we accept returning books mainly by posting service. But you can also return books at the circulation desks directly, or using drop boxes located outside libraries (except Central Library) and student reading rooms when campus gate is open. Even if the delay of return processing occurs because of the library, the user will not be disadvantaged by the reason.
