Considerations

In 2017, Waseda University established “Waseda University Promotion of Diversity Declaration“ and “Basic Policies for the Promotion of Diversity,” and is developing a campus environment that respects the diversity and equality of each individual.

Please consult with us in advance if you need consideration due to disabilities, gender/sexuality, religion, and allergy.

Consideration response examples

This is an example of consideration. Please contact us if you have any requests that are not listed below.

Use of wheelchair-friendly facilities
Use of the common bath outside of the opening hours
Provision of meals that are compatible with halal, vegetarian, allergy, etc.

For supporters

It is important to be knowledgeable of key information regarding considerations and accommodations for students and to work closely with them to overcome hardships.

In many instances, it is unclear how the student would like to proceed, so in these cases, take the following steps:

1) Ask the student whatʼs troubling them and how they would like to proceed

2) Inform the student that you want to respectfully accommodate them

3) Confirm with whom the student feels comfortable sharing information

Examples of whom this information can be shared include each faculty’s office and the Student Affairs Section.

Please contact the Student Affairs Section if you are unsure how to accommodate students.

It is important that individuals donʼt simply “deal with” the reality of disabilities, gender, and sexuality but support students and help them overcome the hardships they face in their everyday lives.

Please communicate to students that you are there to support and understand them.
