Circles

Becoming an official circle

In order to apply to be newly registered as an official circle, all of the following conditions must be met.

*Circles that do not intend to become official circles must also submit the “Circle registration (unofficial) application” to the Student Affairs Section and complete the registration.

Establishment requirements for official circles

  1. The circle must consist only of Waseda University students and have at least 21 members, and the members shall be from at least two schools.
  2. The circle has had at least 1 year of activity experience within and outside of the university under the name of the circle being established (activities prior to university entrance shall not be counted).
  3. The circle must have accounting reports of at least 1 year with receipts attached. Receipts must be addressed to the circle name, clearly indicate the use under the proviso, and include the address/phone number/seal of the issuer.
  4. The circle must have one chair, secretary general, vice secretary general, and accountant each.
  5. Other matters shall be as deemed necessary by the university.
  • The chair for an official circle must be a Full-time Faculty, Professor, Professor (without tenure), Associate Professor (without tenure), or Full-time staff of Waseda University. However, the chair must be a Full-time Faculty, Professor, Professor (without tenure), or Associate Professor (without tenure) for circles whose purpose is research.
  • The maximum number for concurrent appointment of official circle chairs was 5 until AY2017, but the maximum number for concurrent appointment of chairs was changed to 2, considering the workload of chairs who comprehend the details of circle activities and provide appropriate instructions to circle members. In addition, chairs who concurrently serve in 3 or more circles as of the end of AY2017 may continue their position as a transitional measure.

AY2021 New application/continuation procedures for official circles

  • About Circle Seminar
    If you apply to continuation and establishment of official circles, you must participate in Circle Seminar that  be held in Zoom to prevent infection. For details, please refer to ” Spring Semester of 2021 Various Procedures for Circles “.
  • About application for continuation and establishment of official circles
    As a general rule, all applications for continuation and establishment of AY2021 official circles will be made online, and the signature and seal of Chairpersons and circle members will be omitted. For details, please refer to ” Spring Semester of 2021 Various Procedures for Circles “.

In case of any inconsistency between the Japanese version and the English version, the Japanese version shall prevail.
