バージニア州シャーロッツビルにある州立大学。
第3代大統領でもあるトーマス・ジェファーソンによって創立された。アメリカで最高の高等教育機関の一つとして有名である。
1987年にはモンティチェロとあわせて『シャーロッツビルのモンティチェロとバージニア大学』として世界遺産に登録された。
大規模校ながら、著名な教授陣が学生15名以内に教えるセミナーを設けるなど、教育面での工夫を取りいれている。

Q.留学を通じて得た成果を教えてください

英語のレベルを全面的に上げたのはもちろん、一番重宝されることは論理的に自分の意見を述べることでした。論文を書くことを通じて、自分なりに論点を絞り、論拠を探しました。また、異なる文化の立場から物事を考える能力を鍛えたことでした。留学中はよく初めから理解できないことをたくさん体験しましたが、現地学生が私に詳しく説明してくれて、自分の視野を広げることができました。精神面では自分のメンタルヘルスを守るように頑張りました。授業内容では時々暗い内容がたくさんあり、初めの時とても落ち込みましたが、身近の自然に注目したり、友達と話したりして、やる気を出すように頑張りました。

The Cultural Revolution in China

→　12人しかない少人数のセミナーで、先生と交流する機会がたくさんありました。中学生からこのテーマに興味がありましたが、いままで詳しく研究できませんでした。アメリカの目線から中国の特別な時代についての考えを勉強することができて、とても興味深かったです。20ページから25ページの英語論文を書くために、一学期頑張り続けて、とても達成感がありました。

中期プログラム／出願上の注意ー Notes on Application to Semester Programs

留学が必修となっている国際教養学部の学生は、学部の許可をとった上で応募してください。
For SILS students participation in a year-long study abroad program is part of the general degree requirements.
Therefore, you must consult with your School Office in advance if you wish to apply to a semester program(s).
通年科目が設置されている学部に属する学生が春学期留学をする場合、科目登録ができず、帰国後の秋学期の授業を受けられない可能性があります。
その他、専門演習（ゼミ）の登録や履修ができない等、支障が出る可能性がありますので、所属学部・研究科に問い合わせ、よく確認の上、出願して下さい。
If your School has year-long programs, it is essential that you consult with your School Office before applying to a seminar program(s) as there will be a possibility that you may not be able to register for courses in the second (fall) semester and/or seminars (enshu, or so-called "zemi").
延長生となって中期留学プログラムに参加する場合、学費は延長生学費ではなく、所定額をお支払いいただくことになります。

Students on extension (encho-sei) who participate in semester programs are required to pay the full tuition and other academic fees set by their Schools instead of the reduced fees for students on extension.You should confirm details with your School Offices.
