Dear members of the Faculty of Political Science and Economics,
ICPSR（Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research）Summer Program will be held online this year. The Summer Program had been held at the University of Michigan, the headquarter of ICPSR since the 1960s but has gone online since the last year.
Waseda University is part of the national membership to the ICPSR, the world’s largest social science data archive. There are several benefits that students and university staffs can enjoy from this membership as follows: 1) One can download data for free from their archive for academic purposes from any PC connected to the campus Local Area Network, 2) One can attend the Summer Program with a discount rate (about half the price for non-member institutions), 3) One can attend statistics / data analysis summer seminar organized by the ICPSR Japanese National Membership Consortium for free. In addition to the above benefits, the Japanese National Membership Consortium has decided to grant 100,000 yen for those who participate in the Four-Week Session (as in the previous years) and 50,000 yen for those who participate in short workshops for the first time since this year.

N.B.: Undergraduate students are unfortunately not allowed to register but those students who are already admitted to a graduate school can participate in the Summer Program.
If you wish to receive a grant from the ICPSR Japanese National Membership Consortium, please send an email to the following address ([email protected]) with a subject name “ICPSR Summer Program” with the following information.
- Name (identical to your passport name, including romaji notations)
- Affiliation, job title, or grade
- The course title (Four-Week Session or Workshop) that you have registered
- Whether you wish to attend the orientation (see below) or not
- Order Confirmation of your registration (Order ID, Order Placed, Amount of Transaction, Payment Type, Cust ID, etc.)
- Whether you will receive another grant (e.g. grant from the Center for Positive/Empirical Analysis of Political Economy of the Top Global University Scheme of Waseda University, see below for details)

To register the Summer Program, please go to the following website. You need to register by the end of April to receive a grant from the ICPSR Japanese National Membership Consortium.

Apart from the above grant from the ICPSR Japanese National Membership Consortium, a special grant up to 150,000 yen may be offered by the Center for Positive/Empirical Analysis of Political Economy of the Top Global University Scheme of Waseda University for the participants of Four-Week Sessions (not of Short Workshops). If you wish to apply for their grant, please download a form ➡https://waseda.box.com/s/ldgzpp1ei2kfy66ql435hh837ccidacz and send it to the following email address ([email protected]). You may receive grants from the ICPSR Japanese National Membership Consortium (100,000 yen) and the Center for Positive/Empirical Analysis of Political Economy of the Top Global University Scheme (150,000 yen) simultaneously. To benefit from an early registration discount, make sure to register by April 29. Most, if not all, of the tuition fee, 2,600 US Dollars for the Four-Week Session, if registered early, will be covered with the two grants (the total of 250,000 yen). Please note that grants will be offered after the completion of your registered course. If courses are not properly attended, grants may not be paid. We recommend you to take time-differences into consideration before registration if courses are held on a real-time basis.
There will be an orientation for those who are considering participation in the Summer Program organized by the ICPSR Japanese National Membership Consortium on April 22, 10:00am-11:00am via Zoom (in Japanese). If you wish to attend, please send an email to the Consortium office (jna-icpsr★iss.u-tokyo.ac.jp) with your name and affiliation and let them know that you intend to attend the orientation.
