We will hold workshops from October 31st to November 17th and on December 1st. These workshops are designed to improve your ability to gather and manage materials, and also to use the library more effectively. Some programs will be conducted in English. Please come and join us!
- SE: How to Use Library Resources Efficiently
Intended for: Students who do not know how to use library resources
DBs to be introduced: WINE, CiNii Books, Web of Science, ProQuest Newspapers, etc.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to search for and access library resources such as books and journal articles. Make the most of the library’s resources and improve your research skills!
*The content of this workshop is almost the same as the library guidance provided in classes such as the EDESSA Fresh-start seminar, etc.
- RE: RefWorks, a citation management tool
Intended for: Students and faculty members who want to manage bibliographic information
DBs to be introduced: Web of Science
RefWorks is a web-based bibliography manager, useful for writing research papers. It allows you to manage and store bibliographic information and make bibliographies in various formats. Let’s learn the basics of RefWorks from a ProQuest instructor!
*RefWorks is transitioning to a new version. Although this program is primarily for the current version, it is also useful for the new version.
- DE: Let’s find library materials by keyword! -WINE Plus practical training-
Intended for: Students who do not know which databases they should use, and those who want to find materials efficiently
DBs to be introduced: WINE Plus, Waseda University e-journal and e-book lists
What sort of materials are you looking for: books, journal articles, or newspaper articles? If you can’t decide which materials you should look for, there is a convenient online service called WINE Plus. WINE Plus is an integrated search tool you can use to search various kinds of materials. This is a hands-on session with an instructor. Get tips on how to ‘discover’ the materials you need!
- WE: <<Writing Workshop>> Writing Critical Essays: How to Evaluate Films, Books, and other Creative Works
Intended for: Students who are interested in writing critical essays (From undergraduates to graduates)
DBs to be introduced: WINE Plus, useful websites, etc.
●Learn the basic structure of a critical essay (such as introduction, body, conclusion)
●Learn how to write critical essays on creative works (such as books, films, plays, etc.)
●Recognize the basic elements to analyze in a creative work (such as character, plot, climax etc.)
* This is a collaborative workshop between the Writing Center and the Library.
- DB: Database Workshop Series Autumn 2017 provided by the Takata Sanae Memorial Research Library
Intended for: Mainly for graduate students, but undergraduates and faculty members are also welcome.
* With the exception of OSIRIS, these workshops will be delivered in Japanese.
