About the Tokorozawa Library

Located almost in the center of Tokorozawa Campus, the Tokorozawa Library started in May 1987, at the same time as the opening of the School of Human Sciences. It is said that “the library is the heart of a university,” and the Tokorozawa Library also strives to expand and improve its services in order to be the “heart” of research and education at Tokorozawa Campus.

The Tokorozawa Library aims to collect specialized books and academic journals that correspond to the research and education in the Faculty of Human Sciences and the Faculty of Sport Sciences, while also housing books and magazines that contribute to the general education of a wide range of users. A noteworthy collection is the “Oda Collection,” which was donated by Mr. Mikio Oda (a graduate of the university’s School of Commerce), the first Japanese person to win an Olympic gold medal.

The Tokorozawa Library adopts an open-stack system for most of these materials, allowing users to pick them up and look at them directly. There is also a collection of AV materials such as videos and DVDs, which can be used with the facilities in the building.

The Tokorozawa Library collaborates with the Central Library and each campus library to make more materials available by requesting them. Also, as a university library, it strives to enhance electronic materials and various databases, and many online tools can be used from the campus network.

The service targets of the Tokorozawa Library are students, faculty, and staff of Waseda University. Usage is centered on those from Tokorozawa Campus, but students, faculty, and staff from other campuses can use it as well. In addition, alumni and those living or working in the five cities of Tokorozawa, Iruma, Sayama, Hanno, and Hidaka are also permitted to use the library (however, there are restrictions on the scope of use).
