Students are not REQUIRED to have a specific study background to study at UM. For upper-division students, there may be some courses at UM that require pre-requisites in order to be enrolled. While most students who are in need of these courses meet pre-requisite requirements, it is important to confirm that these requirements are met before finalizing their course schedule. UMT provides guidance to each student upon acceptance concerning their proposed course plan, and this guidance does include a review of any pre-requisites that the student may need to register for their proposed courses.

There are some courses that students may be ineligible to take if they do not meet the pre-requisite requirements. There are some courses that are only available to degree-seeking students. These courses are usually upper-division courses taken in the last year of study. Should any students want or need to take such a course, the incoming student coordinator will discuss allowing the exchange student to register for the course with the appropriate faculty member. The final decision will be made by the faculty member.

If student's insurance from Waseda meets the U.S. Department of State's minimum requirements for J-1 visa holders, then no additional insurance is needed.     For SILS students participation in a year-long study abroad program is part of the general degree requirements.
    Therefore, you must consult with your School Office in advance if you wish to apply to a semester program(s).
  • 通年科目が設置されている学部に属する学生が春学期留学をする場合、 科目登録ができず、帰国後の秋学期の授業を受けられない可能性があります。
    その他、専門演習(ゼミ)の登録や履修ができない等、支障が出る可能性がありますので、 所属学部・研究科に問い合わせ、よく確認の上、出願して下さい。
    If your School has year-long programs, it is essential that you consult with your School Office before applying to a seminar program(s) as there will be a possibility that you may not be able to register for courses in the second (fall) semester and/or seminars (enshu, or so-called "zemi").
  • 延長生となって中期留学プログラムに参加する場合、学費は延長生学費ではなく、所定額をお支払いいただくことになります。

    Students on extension (encho-sei) who participate in semester programs are required to pay the full tuition and other academic fees set by their Schools instead of the reduced fees for students on extension.You should confirm details with your School Offices.
