Outlined on our webpages here: https://www.soas.ac.uk/studyabroad/courses/ Independent study projects, dissertations and extended essays are not open to Study Abroad/Exchange students as they are not taught modules. Language modules are found in the regional departments: South East Asia, South Asia, Africa, China and Inner Asia, Japan and Korea, Near and Middle East. It is also your responsibility to check that your preferred classes do not clash by consulting the SOAS timetable. Pre-sessional English courses and Language Centre courses do not carry academic credit and incur extra costs. Undergraduate students are not allowed to take Postgraduate module, but only with permission from the Module Convenor.

Q. 留学を通じて得た成果を教えてください / Q. What have you achieved through studying abroad?
自分の考え方にあまり馴染みがなかった植民地主義や帝国主義という枠組みで物事を批判的に見る癖がついたことです。過去の植民地支配について、教科書やニュース、人から聞いていても、それを他の事実や起こっていることにアプライしたり、それを基に物事を分析する癖はあまりありませんでした。ですが、そのような視点はSOASにいながら授業を受け、友人たちと交わったからこそ養えた観点だと思います。友人たちも旧植民地国にルーツを持つ学生が多く、日常会話の中でもそのような歴史の話がたくさん出てきます。SOASの授業もそれらに関連した授業が多いです。人の国際移動や、欧米で作られたメディア作品などを授業で学び、ディスカッションする過程で、過去の歴史なども参考にしながら現在起こっていることだけではなく、過去までさかのぼって立体的に物事を捉える癖がつきました。また、私自身今まで海外経験が一度もなく、早稲田では英語学位プログラムに所属してもないので英語の授業や英語での生活がとても不安でした。ただ、最初は緊張して(正直最後まで緊張していましたが)、英語のディスカッションにや授業にとても慣れました。講義はすぐ慣れると思いますが、ディスカッションは結構まだ発言する度に緊張していましたが、自分の考えていることは拙くても言えるようになりました。また、英語でエッセイを書いて実際に成績は悪くなかったので、言語はあまり関係ないのだなと思いました。

  • 留学が必修となっている国際教養学部の学生は、学部の許可をとった上で応募してください。
    For SILS students participation in a year-long study abroad program is part of the general degree requirements.
    Therefore, you must consult with your School Office in advance if you wish to apply to a semester program(s).
  • 通年科目が設置されている学部に属する学生が春学期留学をする場合、 科目登録ができず、帰国後の秋学期の授業を受けられない可能性があります。
    その他、専門演習(ゼミ)の登録や履修ができない等、支障が出る可能性がありますので、 所属学部・研究科に問い合わせ、よく確認の上、出願して下さい。
    If your School has year-long programs, it is essential that you consult with your School Office before applying to a seminar program(s) as there will be a possibility that you may not be able to register for courses in the second (fall) semester and/or seminars (enshu, or so-called "zemi").
  • 延長生となって中期留学プログラムに参加する場合、学費は延長生学費ではなく、所定額をお支払いいただくことになります。
