We are pleased to announce that we will accept applications for the exchange program with Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, U.S.A., which is one of the partner universities of Waseda University.
This scholarship program was established through the generosity of the family of Dr. Tsuneo Akaha, Emeritus Professor and Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University.
One eligible student will be exempted from paying the local dormitory fee (up to $6,500).

・Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s or doctoral program at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University, at the time of application for the program and throughout the study abroad period,
and must be of excellent academic and personal standing.
(Applicants may apply while on a leave of absence, but must be back in school at the start of the program.)
・Applicants must understand the contents of the written pledge and have the consent of their parents or guardians.
・Nationality requirement: No
・Academic Year Requirement: No
・GPA requirement: (Master’s students only) 3.0 or higher (Doctoral students’ GPA is not required)
・Language requirement: TOEFL iBT Total 79 (Reading 19, Listening 19, Speaking 19, Writing 23) (My Best Score submission accepted)
Or IELTS Total 6.5 (Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing 6, Speaking 6)

Please submit your application using the application form below during the web application registration period from Thursday, February 1, 2024 at noon to Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. (Japan time).
*The above application form cannot be opened until the start of the application period.
*Submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted for any reason. Please make sure to submit your application by the deadline.
*Please submit the application documents together with the web application registration between noon on Thursday, February 1, 2024 and 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024 (Japan Standard Time).
*There are two types of application documents: those submitted as data via the application form above, and those submitted as originals to the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies Office.
*Please submit all documents, both data and originals, by the due date. Submission after the deadline will not be accepted for any reason.

Master’s degree students: Transcripts of bachelor’s degree and master’s degree must be submitted.
Doctor’s degree students: Transcripts of bachelor’s degree + master’s degree + doctoral degree are required.
4) Certificate of Official Language Test (1 copy) ★Submit data from the application form + submit a copy of the original to the GSAPS office★.
Please note that there are standards for the number of points for each section, not just the total number of points.
Please submit the score certificate valid as of the local application deadline (May 15).

Please submit an 800-word essay in English describing your purpose for participating in the semester exchange program and your academic plans at the school of your choice. (Handwriting is not acceptable)

~February 16 (Fri.): Document screening, notification of interview schedule
~February 27 (Tue.) : Interview test
March 1 (Fri.) After 1:00 p.m. : Announcement of in-house screening results (in MyWaseda “Notices”)
From April: Application procedures for partner institutions (Deadline: May 15)
From May: Acceptance from the partner university ⇒ Arrangement of VISA, housing, airline tickets, etc. / Procedures at GSAPS
Middle June: “Candidate Orientation” video (required)
Early July Pre-departure orientation (participation required)
Late August: Travel to the destination and start the program
