Waseda University Museum Week 2022: The Unexpected Is Waiting

Hi everyone! Welcome to the Waseda University!

I am Yunying Chai, a member of Student Advisers for WasedaCulture. Our job as Student Advisers is to spread and create Waseda’s culture.

Do you know that currently there are six cultural institutions at Waseda University?! Including the Waseda International House of Literature (The Haruki Murakami Library) which was newly opened last year, Waseda also organizes various activities in the Tsubouchi Memorial Theatre Museum (Enpaku), the Aizu Museum, the Waseda University History Museum, the Waseda Sports Museum, and the Honjo-Waseda No Mori Museum at this year’s Museum Week in May. The Museum Week aims to spread Waseda culture and hope more people could feel the charm of Waseda’s cultural institutions.

This post is for international students (or visitors) who love to join the activities but do not fully understand Japanese.  Don’t worry, I will introduce all the recommended activities to you in English on this page. Then I hope you would enjoy these activities below and remember, The Unexpected Is Waiting For You!

Museum Week Okuma Live

Here, you will watch the great dance performances from Waseda circles that you shouldn’t miss! The genre of dances is various, from Cheer Dance, Jazz Dance to Japanese Yosakoi. Waseda Museum Stamp Rally

Another two events I would like to introduce are related to the stamp collection. In Japan, these kinds of activities are called Stamp Rally, which means participants need to go to different locations to collect stamps and possibly win a prize at the end of the event. Personally, I always enjoy Stamp Rally especially for collecting the train station stamps. Therefore, I hope the two Stamp Rally activities organized during Museum Week this year could also let you learn the charm of Waseda University.

One of them is called Waseda Museum Stamp Rally. By finding the stamps that are set in the 5 different places on Waseda university and stamping them on top of each other in a single sheet, you will get a colorful illustration of Okuma Auditorium! This activity newly starts this year and as a lover of stamp collection, I also can’t wait to join in!

Wasemeshi Stamp Rally

The second one is called Wasemeshi Stamp Rally, for anyone who enjoys food around Waseda University. You can get a set of Waseda’s original flatware for collecting 3 stamps while receiving a set of original museum week T-shirt and Waseda’s original mini water bottle for collecting 5 stamps.

What are you waiting for? Hurry up and get the stamp card from participating restaurants or the Waseda’s cultural institutions! When you finish collecting stamps, write down your name and contact information on the back of the stamp card. Put into the boxes that are set in the Waseda Sports Museum or the Waseda University History Museum by May 30, 2022(Mon) 5:00 pm.
