  • Details: Improper use by using “Link Prefetching” of web browsers caused the large volume data downloads / access

With regard to this inappropriate use of service, Waseda University will continue to provide thorough service guidance so as not to cause the same situation in the future.

Improper Use by Using Link Prefetching of Web Browsers

There have been many cases where publishers issue warnings and suspend the use of electronic resources due to unauthorized use of electronic materials using this function.
The range of impact of penalties for unauthorized use of electronic resources varies. Not only was the individual who committed the unauthorized use unable to use certain materials, but in some cases, Waseda University as a whole was unable to access all publications from the publisher.
Even if you are using electronic resources as usual, please check the settings of your web browser once again to avoid a situation where the large volume of downloads or accesses occur without you realizing it.

User Instructions for E-resources

As shown by “User Instructions for E-resources”, some behaviors below are forbidden.

  • To download data through automatic programming
  • To download a large volume of data in short period of time by hand
  • Systematic downloading of specified journals

If an inappropriate use of the service is confirmed, the service providers may issue a warning and/or suspend the services to the entire University, and also it may develop into a situation that could have a great impact on our research and educational activities.

Once again, please refer to the following guidelines and the user instructions on the Waseda E-resource Portal before using e-resources and continue to be cautious of using e-resources properly. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
