Waseda University has concluded a contract of Read & Publish (R&P) with Springer Nature (SN) since 2023. Under this agreement, Corresponding Authors can publish Open Access (OA) in SN journals without OA publication charge. Please refer to the following for details such as conditions of Article Processing Charge (APC) waiver.
Please note that a person who is eligible for APC waiver is different from one eligible for other on-campus programs such as the “Support for Academic Paper Publication”.

- R&P Contract Period*1: January 10, 2023 – December 31, 2025
- APC Discount Rate: 100%
- Number of APC Waiver: Applications Closed / The maximum number for 2023 has been reached. [2023/9/19]
– The 2024 APC Waiver will apply to eligible papers which are accepted after January 1, 2024.
– Frames are on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline will be when the maximum number is reached.

Papers for which the corresponding author has completed the prescribed procedures and must have one of the following statuses at the time of paper acceptance. *Limited to Hybrid OA journals
- How to apply for APC exemption*3: Corresponding authors who wish to apply for OA publication and APC exemption must follow the procedures in the “Waseda University Guide for Authors” in addition to registering on the SN system (AAS). The corresponding author must send an email to Waseda University within 2 days after clicking “Yes, submit for approval” in “Identification of affiliated institution” in the guide.
*1 The re-contract of R&P after 2026 is scheduled in the autumn of 2025.
*2 You need to check the list of eligible Journals and Open Access Status before submitting because the list could be updated at any time.
*3 Please make sure to check an individual account of AAS which each journal designates before submissions. You may be ineligible for APC waiver if you do not register a Waseda email with one of the domains above for Primary Email Address and Waseda University for Affiliation.
