Library Workshops in Fall Semester 2025 are open for registration!

The library will be holding a series of workshops in the fall semester 2025.

“Library Workshops” (free of charge/registration required).

Learn search techniques and acquire how to use academic materials for literature reviews!
Take this opportunity to familiarise yourself with academic resources and improve your research skills!

For those unable to attend the workshops, an online course is available on Waseda Moodle.

Period of the Event:

November 21 (Fri.) and December 17 (Wed.), 2025

Main Targets:

Students and faculty of Waseda University *Waseda ID holders

Application & Notes:

  • Please click here to register in advance. Registration closes the day before the workshop. 
  • Please check the details in the e-mail which will be sent to your Waseda email address at least one day before the workshop.
  • If you wish to participate in a Zoom live-streaming workshop, you will need to install the Zoom application in advance. We recommend that you prepare a separate device (smartphone or PC) for screen sharing and a PC for searching together.
  • (To those who require accommodation) Attendees who desire accommodations (PC speech-to-text interpretation; sign-language interpretation; guidance at venue; securing of seats), including those bringing children, should inform us at least 10 days before the date of the event. Upon consultation, we will accommodate your request to the greatest extent possible.

 

Workshop programs in English:

1.Finding Materials for Literature Reviews: Common Questions and Answers!

  • Introduction to this Workshop:
    Conducting previous research and searching for relevant sources is a huge part of writing your undergraduate or graduate thesis. It’s the first step in understanding past research and finding your own topic.
    We’ll introduce you to some really useful databases and share some practical tips with you, like how to select keywords for searching academic materials. Our library staff are here to support you at every stage of your research journey.
  • Target Participants for This Program:
    This is mainly for students in their third year or above who are doing their first degree, and for students in their first year of a master’s degree.
    This event is for first- and second-year undergraduates, and anyone who wants to learn how to search for materials.
  • Databases to Be Introduced:
    WINE、Waseda E-Resource Portal
  • Date and Time:
    Friday, November 21, 10:40 AM – 11:40 AM 【Lectures in Japanese】
    Friday, November 21, 1:10 PM – 2:10 PM 【Lectures in English】
  • Location:
    Both days will be held in person at Group Study Room 2 of the Central Library, but Zoom viewing is also available. However, the session will proceed according to the in-person participants. Individual questions will not be accepted via Zoom.

    You must view the library content posted on Moodle beforehand. Bring your own PC to class so we can search together.

 

2.Preparing Your Research: Writing the Introduction and Conducting a Literature Review

  • Introduction to this Workshop:
    The introduction of a research paper is a crucial section where you present the background of your research, review previous research, and highlight the significance and originality of your research question. Yet, many say, “I don’t know where to start…” In this workshop, tutors from the Academic Writing session will help you to take the first step together toward writing an effective introduction.
  • Target Participants for This Program:
    Individuals who struggle with writing papers or reports; those who have rarely used the Writing Center or library
