The following is an introduction to the Learning Commons area in the Science and Engineering Library (B1F, Building No. 51, Nishiwaseda Campus). Please note that the Science and Engineering Students’ Reading Room, which is temporarily relocated as of April 2023, does not have reading seats due to space limitations, but this space is also available to undergraduate students. The wearing of masks in all areas will be based on personal judgment.
1. Inside area of the entrance gate of the Science & Engineering Library
(1) Group Work Room 1
This glass-enclosed space on the right side of the entrance gate is mainly suitable for group study. The space is grouped into several seating areas, so you can freely change the layout depending on the number of people using the space. Reservations are not required, but in order to accommodate a large number of people, each group may use the space for up to three hours.
(2) Box Seats
This space, located behind the new journals and JIS-related materials shelves, is like a family restaurant where PC screens can be projected onto a built-in display for use by four or fewer people. Reservations are not required for this space, which can be used for up to three hours per group.
(3) Personal Work Area
Window seats are intended for individual use, and table seats are intended for individual or group use. If you are attending an online lecture that involves speech, please use the “Group Work Room 2” outside the gate below.
(4) Learning Assistant Desk
This is a place where you can consult with graduate student Learning Assistants about how to find materials in the library and how to proceed with your studies and research. Please feel free to stop by. We also accept questions by e-mail. Please note that it may take some time to receive a response.
2. Outside area of the entrance gate
(1) Group Work Room 2
- Personal use of seats (near window)
It is intended primarily for individual study, and can also be used in online lectures that involve speech.
- Group seats
Suitable for group study. Please note that some seat availability may be restricted when the following large display is reserved for use.
- Large Display
A large display with online conference system for group study or online meetings, etc. is available by advance reservation only. To make a reservation, please visit this reservation site and select the date and time you wish to use the room. On the day of use, equipment can be checked out at the circulation desk of the Science and Engineering Library.
(2) Communication Lounge
This is an area where conversation and speech are allowed and where eating and drinking are permitted. Please be careful not to contaminate library materials when eating or drinking. After eating or drinking, please wipe the area with disinfectant solution or waste located near the entrance. Thank you for your cooperation.
