Waseda University has concluded a contract of Read & Publish (R&P) with Oxford University Press (OUP) since 2023. With this R&P, Corresponding Author can publish Open Access (OA) in OUP journals without Open Access publication charge. Please refer to the following for details such as conditions of APC waiver.
Please note that a person who is eligible for APC waiver is different from one eligible for other on-campus programs such as the “Support for Academic Paper Publication”.
The below contents are subject to change. Please check the following information before submitting your articles.
- R&P Contract Period*1: January 2023 – December 2025
- APC Discount Rate: 100%
- Number of APC Waiver [Waseda University]: 31 articles per year for 2023 / 32 articles per year for 2024 and 2025 (Frames are on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline will be when the maximum number is reached.)
- Eligible Journals*2: Please obtain the “Eligible Journal List” from the OUP website.
- Eligible Articles: Article which corresponding author who register the designated Waseda email submit through the prescribed procedure. (Limited to Hybrid OA publications)
Waseda emails designated for APC waiver have one of the following domains: waseda.jp、aoni.waseda.jp、akane.waseda.jp、asagi.waseda.jp、fuji.waseda.jp、moegi.waseda.jp、ruri.waseda.jp、suou.waseda.jp、toki.waseda.jp
- APC Waiver Workflow*3:
1) After the article is accepted, OUP will notify the corresponding author of the OA publication on the system or by e-mail.
2) The corresponding author chooses OA publication and APC waiver.
3) Waseda University must make a decision on whether to use the APC waiver for the relevant article within 7 days. Waseda University confirms that the article corresponds to the above “Eligible Journals” and “Eligible Articles”, and the APC waiver is approved.
Note: Waseda University may send an inquiry e-mail for identity verification. Please reply to the email as soon as you receive it. - Platform for APC approval is different depending on each journal until further notice. After that, the platform will be integrated into SciPris.
*1 The re-contract of R&P after 2026 is scheduled in the autumn of 2025.
*2 You need to check the eligible journals before submitting because journals could be updated at any time. Journals with “yes” in the “Eligible for hybrid R&P deals?” column in the list are eligible.
*3 Please make sure to check an individual account setting on the platform that each journal specifies. You may be ineligible for APC waiver if you do not register a Waseda email with one of the domains above for Primary Email Address and Waseda University for Affiliation.
