Treatment within the scope of the Medical Fee Reimbursement System
The Waseda University Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association shall reimburse medical fees for the following treatment.
Treatment within the health insurance coverage received in contracted clinics/hospitals and other medical institutes (hospitals/general hospitals/clinics, etc.) within Japan authorized to treat patients with insurance coverage
Treatment within the health insurance coverage received in contracted dental offices and other medical institutes (hospitals/general hospitals/dental offices, etc.) within Japan authorized to treat patients with insurance coverage
Dispensing (medication) within the health insurance coverage received in contracted pharmacies and other dispensing pharmacies within Japan
*Doctor’s consent form is required for fracture/dislocation treatment.
(Doctor’s certificate is required. Refer to “To apply for medical fee reimbursement” for the application method.)
–Corsets, casts, supporters, crutches if not available for rental, artificial eyes, artificial arms, artificial legs, etc. on doctors’ orders
*While therapeutic orthosis (with the doctor’s certificate) is normally covered by the patient in full, the Waseda University Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association shall reimburse 30% of the cost, from which 1,000 yen is deducted, up to the annual limit.
Example: If the price for crutches is 12,000 yen:
12,000 yen x 30% = 3,600 yen
3,600 yen – 1,000 yen = 2,600 yen
Reimbursed amount: 2,600 yen
Besides, individually inquire with the insurance union, as the other 70% may be reimbursed by your insurance union.
[Important] It has been determined that the treatment at an osteopathic clinic, treatment for acupuncture/moxibustion/massage and therapeutic orthosis deemed necessary for treatment by a doctor will be outside of the scope of the medical fee reimbursement system as of April 1st, 2022.

If the application is approved, the applicant may be given 1/2 of the medical expense benefit, which is the amount equivalent to the normal insurance treatment (30%) minus the patient’s co-payment. Depending on the application details, half of the medical fee, in which the self coverage amount is deducted from the amount equivalent to the normal treatment covered by insurance (30%), may be reimbursed.

*All visits to overseas medical institutes and dispensing pharmacies shall be outside of the scope of the Medical Fee Reimbursement System by the Waseda University Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association.
In case of any inconsistency between the Japanese version and the English version, the Japanese version shall prevail.
