The Global Management Program (GMP) is an international education program at the School of Commerce, Waseda University. Throughout the four years of undergraduate study, the program aims to nurture business leaders committed to making meaningful contributions to the global society in the future.
The GMP’s mission is to develop students as global business leaders who are dedicated to making the world a better place. The present times call for leaders equipped with international knowledge and experience, not only on the global stage but also within their local communities. Moreover, business, alongside politics, culture, and religion, has emerged as a powerful driving force in contemporary society. The GMP is committed to fostering global leaders who will harness the potential of business to forge a brighter future for the world.
The GMP recognizes the following qualities and abilities necessary for global business leaders: (1) comprehensive knowledge of the world’s business, economy, cultures, and societies; (2) skills to identify and solve problems in business; and (3) proficiency in international communication. Over the course of the four-year program, the GMP aims to elevate these three abilities of students to the top level in the world.
We, the faculty and staff of the School of Commerce, Waseda University, are confident that the GMP graduates will create a better society in the future, both in their own countries and around the world.
GMP forums (namely, joint zemis) are regularly held as a collaborative platform for all the GMP zemis, playing a significant role in fostering a strong sense of unity within the GMP community. Further details about the GMP Forums can be found below.
In order to complete the program, students must fulfill the following three completion requirements:
(1) GMP zemis and the graduation thesis, (2) GMP core courses, and (3) English proficiency.
In the fall of the second year, students are selected for enrollment in the GMP-eligible seminar (GMP Zemi) conducted primarily in English, based on the screening of specialized educational subject exercises. In addition, “Business Research Methods” has been established to teach the skills necessary for writing the graduation thesis in English, which is one of the GMP completion requirements, and to provide support for thesis writing.
Specialized courses in business subjects taught in English are designated as GMP Core Courses. To complete the program, students must obtain a total of 10 credits in five of these courses. Details of each course are available on the course Syllabus.
In the first and second years, students are required to earn credits in the Advanced Plus or Advanced English Classes, according to their level of proficiency in English. The Advanced Plus and Advanced English classes are selected from the top 20% of students in the same year. Students in other English proficiency classes are required to submit scores from a required English proficiency test (TOEFL iBT, IELTS, TOEIC, or the EIKEN Test) at the time of graduation to confirm their English proficiency.
