Honjo City is home to the Honjo Campus of Waseda University, and the university is deepening ties with the surrounding area to carry out educational and research activities. In October 2004, as part of Waseda University's 125th anniversary celebrations, the Waseda Research Park Communication Center held the "Waseda University Collection Exhibition in Honjo." This exhibition displayed cultural assets from the Waseda University Library, The Tsubouchi Memorial Theatre Museum, and Aizu Museum, and became an opportunity for exchange with the local community. Since then, the exhibition has been held regularly, and collaborative projects with the local community have been developed.
Cultural Affairs Division works in cooperation with the Honjo Waseda International Research Park Public Interest Incorporated Foundation and the Honjo Project Promotion Office of the Academic Affairs Department to promote projects in cooperation with surrounding cities and towns.
Additionally, Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture and Waseda University have positioned the natural environment, ruins, and cultural assets, centered around Okuboyama and Asamiyama Hills, as the "Honjo Waseda Cultural Forest" as a base for local culture. In October 2020, the "Honjo Waseda no Mori Museum" was jointly opened, and exhibits are being held using materials owned by the university and Honjo City. This introduces the history of the region from a global perspective and contributes to the development of local culture.
The Waseda Culture Site is operated by Cultural Affairs Division as a base for disseminating the university's cultural resources and information.
