The Waseda University Cultural Affairs Division is working on the following recognition projects.
早稲田大学では、本学の文科を創設した坪内逍遙の残した精神を現代に活かすべく、「早稲田大学坪内逍遙大賞」を2007年に創設いたしました。この賞は、文芸・文化・芸術活動のなかから、隔年で、「大賞」1名、「奨励賞」1名を選んで顕彰することを目的としておりま す。
The Okuma Shigenobu Memorial Museum Sketching Contest is held annually for elementary and junior high school students at the Okuma Shigenobu Memorial Museum in Saga City, Saga Prefecture. By holding the contest in the place where Okuma Shigenobu was born and raised, the aim is to promote Okuma Shigenobu both within and outside the city, while also allowing the participating children to learn about his achievements and develop a sense of pride and attachment to their hometown. Every year, Waseda University presents the "Waseda University Cultural Affairs Division Award" to three applicants from among the submitted works.
Okuma Shigenobu Memorial Museum
This is a tanka poetry contest to honor the poet Bokusui Wakayama (1885-1928), who was born in Miyazaki Prefecture. Wakayama attended the prefectural Nobeoka Middle School and graduated from the Department of English Literature at Waseda University (1908). He was close friends with his classmates Hakushu Kitahara (Imizu) and Sosui Nakabayashi, and was known as one of the "Three Waters of Waseda."
Every year, entries are accepted from all prefectures and the Tanka Grand Prize and Excellence Prize are awarded. Waseda University presents the Special Jury Award, Waseda University Prize to one elementary school student, one junior high school student, and one high school student.
Wakayama Bokusui Youth Tanka Grand Prize
The Azusa Establishment Festival celebrates the birthday of Ono Azusa (1852-1886), known as the "mother of the founding of the academy," on February 20th (March 10th in the Gregorian calendar). The festival honors Ono Azusa, as well as honoring other great men from Sukumo who were active in their respective fields as the eras changed from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods. By learning from their footsteps, the festival contributes to the healthy development of young people and the development of culture and education in Sukumo.
One elementary school student and one junior high school student will be awarded the Grand Prize, Excellence Prize, and Encouragement Prize in each of the essay and painting categories.
Azusa Festival Essay and Painting Contest
With the backing of the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the National Academic Science Competition has been held annually by Obunsha since 1957 with the aim of "encouraging research, arts and literature among elementary, junior high and high school students nationwide, and nurturing the individuality of young people."
This contest has a wide variety of categories, and students can submit works that they have created in their field of expertise. Excellent works are awarded the Prime Minister's Award, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award, the Minister of the Environment Award, and more. Waseda University presents the "Waseda University President's Award" to recognize outstanding works in the literary category.
National Arts and Science Competition
The Waseda Culture Site is operated by Cultural Affairs Division as a base for disseminating the university's cultural resources and information.
