FAQ

These are some of the frequently asked questions regarding the Injury and Accident Compensation Program for Waseda Students (GAKUSHOUHO).

*For activities in off-campus facilities, you must submit the “Notification Form for Activities held Off-Campus” (for faculty and staff)/“<For Circle>Notification Form for Activities held Off-Campus (including camp/tour) by 7 days before the activity start date excluding closed days (excluding Saturdays/Sundays/holidays/vacations) (the deadline must be strictly followed) regardless of the travel distance or whether or not nights are spent away.

During regular curriculum

It shall fall within the scope if the student attends the conference for master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation research under the instructions of the faculty in charge. Accidents during transportation shall fall within the scope.

During a school event

They shall be regarded as accidents during a school event, as the event is positioned as part of events hosted by an undergraduate school.

During commuting

Their parents’ house is not the base residence for study, so it shall not fall within the scope.

It shall not fall within the scope, as it is not regarded as commuting with a purpose of participating in school events or extracurricular activities such as university classes.

During transportation between facilities

It shall fall within the scope if it was via reasonable routes or means (excluding means prohibited by the university) for the purpose of attending school events or extracurricular activities such as university classes.

During extracurricular activities

*In case of extracurricular activities in facilities off campus, you must submit the “<For Circle>Notification Form for Activities held Off-Campus (including camp/tour)” by 1 week before the activity day.

If the club requested the members to carry the instruments and if the members were carrying them according to the trip plan, it shall fall within the scope. (*This assumes that the trip plan had been submitted to the university.)

Dangerous sports shall not fall within the scope of this compensation system.

It shall be the same as being injured in Japan in principle. Even if you are hospitalized or visits a hospital for treatment overseas, such days shall be counted as part of the number of treatment days. The same shall apply to treatment after returning to Japan.

During transportation between facilities

If the participation contributes to credits for graduation or is required for graduation, it shall be applicable to “regular curriculum.” If it’s planned by the university and hosted, it shall be applicable to “school event” even if the participation is voluntary. If it’s part of group activities by an extracurricular activity group (official group) notified to the university that has been approved by the university, it shall be applicable to “extracurricular activities.” These activities shall fall within the scope. It goes without saying that private activity time is excluded from this.

If the school hosts the event and you go overseas for language studies, the applicable scope of “school event” becomes an issue. In the actual procedure, the study schedule, participant list, etc. shall be submitted and individually reviewed for the assessing company to review each case.

In case of any inconsistency between the Japanese version and the English version, the Japanese version shall prevail.
