Research Summary
As we enter the 21st century, it is not easy to predict the course of the world order as globalism makes increasingly significant progress and regionalism gains solid ground. In this context, Russia and
Eastern Europe retain an influence that cannot be ignored, and their trends are deeply intertwined with and sometimes play a role in influencing the world’s political, economic, cultural, and other trends. The war between Russia and Ukraine that began in February 2022 will reaffirm the importance of this research agenda. The war between Russia and Ukraine from February 2022 reminds us once again of the importance of that research agenda.
As is well known, Waseda University has a long history and tradition of research on Russia and Eastern Europe in the humanities and social sciences, and as one of the centers of such research in
Japan, has produced outstanding researchers. The Institute will address the above issues by combining the energy of the university’s Russian and East European studies and with the cooperation of researchers from outside the university.
