Research Summary
The Institute aims to establish a new practical framework for cultural heritage studies that integrates; 1)
investigation of cultural heritage using advanced technology, 2) sharing the results with local
communities, and 3) conservation and utilization of cultural heritage with respect for local values, by
understanding distinctive features and unique structures of the regions that produced them from their local
roots. The goal is to create a practical framework for cultural heritage research. Specifically, the following
three issues will be addressed.
(1) Investigation of cultural heritage using advanced technology
Establish a global standard for cultural heritage research by conducting high-precision investigations
using advanced information technology that is being developed in advanced countries, based on the local
social and cultural context.
(2) Sharing the results with local communities
In addition to publishing the survey results in English, we will publish them in the local language,
exhibit them at local sites, and conduct cultural heritage education and other educational activities. Build a
new cultural heritage research model that integrates the process of research and sharing the results to the
local community.
(3) Conservation and utilization of cultural heritage with respect for local values
Based on a comprehensive understanding of the local value system surrounding cultural heritage, we
will develop a methodology for communicating its historical significance globally while making the most
of the relationships between the site and its artifacts and the people living in the surrounding area.
