The closing ceremony of the Master Kong Dream Scholarship Program took place online.

The closing ceremony of the Master Kong Dream Scholarship Program took place online at Waseda University on Friday, February 25, 2022.

This scholarship program launched in 2016 supported hugely by Tingyi Group, a leading food manufacturer in China. Selected students from the top 5 universities representing China (Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Zhejiang University) stayed in Japan for half a year. They acquired expertise at Waseda University and deepened their understanding of different cultures through experiences gained in the field studies in Sukumo City. Each student completed their dream plans. The program with the aim of fostering global leaders of Asia has been implemented seven times, with as many as 115 students participating. Not all the programs initially planned were implemented due to the COVID-19 outbreak; however, we came to celebrate the program’s successful completion in the spring of 2022.

We had the professor Kate Elwood, the Dean of the Center for International Education of Waseda University, as a master of ceremony. The ceremony began with a message from Mr. Walt WU,Chief Human Resource Officer of the Tingyi Group, who gave generous contributions, and a video message from Mr. Shuichi Akamatsu, the Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in Shanghai. A panel discussion led by Professor. Hirakawa, who was a program coordinator, followed. A student representative who had completed the course gave a speech on thoughts toward the program. The mayor of Sukumo City, who kindly offered the field study opportunity, mentioned the wonderful bond established through the international exchange in such a depopulated provincial city of Japan. Professor. Kazuo Kuroda, the former Dean of the International Office, expressed his great hopes for all the students who had participated in this program to play crucial roles for the world as “Kokusai Jinzai”, competent international personnel.

At the end of the ceremony, Professor. Genma, Vice President of International Affairs, Waseda University, and Professor. Lee, the Dean of International Office, Waseda University, respectively expressed their gratitude for all the parties concerned. We took pictures all together online and concluded the ceremony, where more than 60 participants joined.
