Tuition and Aid

Waseda University offers a number of scholarship options for its students. International students can also apply for scholarships after admittance to the university.

Please note that scholarship announcements are made not directly by the Scholarships and Financial Assistance Section but through each school’s office. You can get detailed information on how to apply and the eligibility criteria through scholarship flyers on the bulletin board of your school’s office or application guides available at the office.

The list below provides information on scholarships for which foreign students can apply:

  • The above list of scholarships is designated for privately financed international students. Those financed by the Japanese or foreign governments and other organizations are not eligible to apply.
  • Please note that not all scholarships on the list above are opened for applications every year.
  • At the time of application for university admission, there is a need to guarantee that you have financial resources sufficient to cover all necessary costs during your stay in Japan. As it is very difficult to win a scholarship straight after entering university, you should build your study abroad plan without depending on receiving scholarships. Most scholarships do not allow application before enrollment.
  • Non-degree students cannot apply for any scholarships.
  • If you are a foreign national with visa status such as “permanent resident”, “long-term resident”, “spouse or child of Japanese national”, “spouse or child of permanent resident”, you will apply for most scholarships in the same manner as Japanese students.
