From Monday, July 28 to Friday, August 1, 2025, Waseda University’s Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies (GSAPS) proudly hosted the EAUI Summer School 2025.

This year’s program marked the long-awaited return of the EAUI Summer School after a six-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event brought together five leading universities in East Asia: Korea University (South Korea), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Peking University (China), Thammasat University (Thailand), and Waseda University (Japan).

A total of 34 students from the five institutions gathered in Tokyo to explore the theme:
“Confronting Challenges and Crises: East Asia at the end of the 1st quarter of the 21st Century.”

Through a rich program of lectures, symposiums, field trips, and presentations, participants engaged in deep discussions and collaborative learning on the pressing issues facing the region.

Though the program lasted only one week, it was an intense and inspiring experience. Students tackled complex topics with dedication and built meaningful connections across borders, languages, and academic backgrounds.

Next year, the EAUI Summer School will be hosted by Peking University. We warmly encourage all interested students to apply and take part in this exciting opportunity!
