The screening method differs depending on the admissions category as follows.
・General Admissions and Special Admissions for International Development) : Document screening only
・Special Admissions for Graduating Waseda University Student: Both document screening and interview
・General Admissions: Document screening and interview screening (The interview screening is only for those who have passed the document screening.)
For all of the above-mentioned admissions, application documents are to be submitted through the online application system.
You may apply even if your undergraduate major is different from International Relations. The Graduate School of Asia- Pacific Studies accepts a wide range of talented individuals from Japan and abroad.
The admission period cannot be postponed or changed. However, for successful international students who will serve in the military before entering GSAPS and wish to enter after completing their military service, postponement of the entrance date may be granted. For details, please contact the GSAPS Admissions Office.
Yes, it is possible. There is no limit to the number of times you can apply as long as you meet the application requirements.
It is not required. But if you want, please send us <[email protected]> a message for the faculty member. We will forward it to him/her through the GSAPS Admissions Office. However, please note that we cannot guarantee a reply from him/her and a contact with the GSAPS faculty members is not permitted once the application period starts.
Scholarships Admissions are entrance examination systems that allows students to apply for scholarships at the same time they apply for the admissions, and to find out whether or not they are eligible to receive a scholarship before entering the school. Some of the scholarships available through the scholarship admissions are full-coverage scholarships that waive tuition fees and provide additional monthly living expenses. GSAPS offers several kinds of Scholarship Admissions. Eligibility for each scholarship varies, so please check the website below for the scholarship admissions of your choice.
Basically, there will be two timings, one in April and the other in September (depending on the admissions category, only one of the two may be held).
You are welcome to visit GSAPS Office on the 7th floor of Building No. 19 during office hours (10:00-16:00, Monday through Friday, except for national holidays and university holidays). (No prior appointment is necessary, but we recommend that you inquire in advance as the university’s business days and holidays may differ from the general calendar.)

Upload your certificate of expected graduation and the latest transcripts as of the time of application on the online application system. If you are accepted, please submit your graduation certificate and final transcript at the time of entrance procedures.
”Proof of Language Proficiency” depends on the language applicants choose for screening/their degree thesis at GSAPS or their mother language, etc. Please carefully read the “Application Guide” and prepare the appropriate lauguage test score report/certificate.
We do not set the cutoff score and validated date for the language proficiency certificate.
*However, when applying for the “International Priority Graduate Program (PGP)” of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) , you must meet the criteria and validity period specified by the MEXT for language proficiency test score. For details, please refer to the application guide.
