[Direct-managed] Waseda International Student House

Concept and Information

Concept

Come live and learn at Waseda University, joining students from all over Japan and around the world as you lay the foundation for your future!

In March 2014, the new student dormitory Waseda International Student House, or “WISH,“ opened within the Waseda University Nakano International Community Plaza, which serves as Waseda’s new base for cultivating global leaders.

Students with diverse perspectives gather at WISH from all corners of Japan and around the world. They are expected to become understanding of others and cultivate their communication ability so that they will be able to play an active role in the global society and nurture a wide range of human relationships while living and learning together in the dormitory. WISH provides “Social Intelligence (SI) Programs” which are designed to hone their skills necessary to become talents capable of meeting social needs. All residents are required to attend these programs.

Not only live-in House Masters but also Resident Assistants, or “RA”s, who are student volunteers (senior students) also residing in the dormitory, provide various residential assistance at WISH, home to about 900 Japanese and international students. They support safe and comfortable dormitory life.

Start your ideal campus life at WISH where you can improve yourself while interacting with residents whose characters and talents vary from yours.

Waseda University has embarked on a mid- to- long term plan: “Waseda Vision 150,” developed to mark the 150th year anniversary of the University’s establishment in 2032. It proposes three concepts: “students of the highest caliber and character to contribute to the world,” “alumni who contribute to the public good as global leaders,” and “research that will ultimately contribute to real world peace and happiness in human society.” To this end, the University positions the new type of international student dormitory, WISH, to be one of the most important pillars upon which to build up the concepts and put them into practice.

Please be aware that lines are provided under a “best effort” type service (Note: this is a service that cannot guarantee communication speeds or service quality) shared within the dormitory. People concerned about communication restrictions and speeds, etc., will need to enter into a contract with a private internet service provider individually. (There are no wired LAN ports in the dormitory so it is necessary to contract for a wireless based service.) Due to device specifications, smartphones and tablets have a weak ability to detect signal compared to computers.
Therefore, when trying to connect to the wireless internet via a smartphone or tablet, please do so from the unit living room or the shared space whenever possible.
