Chiiki Renkei Workshop(Field-Based Community Workshop )Overview

Local governments often deal with challenges like community development, branding, attracting new residents, creating regional souvenirs, and planning sightseeing activities. In this hands-on workshop, student teams from different years and fields work together to tackle a real-world problem. After meeting with municipal leaders, government staff, community members, and other stakeholders, the teams discuss the issues and look for possible solutions.

〇 Students who are scheduled to participate in a Field-Based Community Workshop are not eligible to apply for another workshop that occurs during the same period.

Participating Regions and Workshop Themes

★All programs will be conducted in Japanese.

Ebetsu-city, Hokkaido /江別市(北海道)

“Discover the lesser-known strengths of Ebetsu and develop strategies to help young people stay connected and engaged with the city.” (TBD)

Suzu-city, Ishikawa prefecture/珠洲市(石川県)

“Articulate a vision of hope for Suzu from the viewpoint of Waseda students.” (TBD)

Furudono-cho, Fukushima prefecture/古殿町(福島県)

“Identify essential information to preserve and share the traditional culture of Yabusame, and organize its tacit knowledge.” (TBD)

Tanohata village, Iwate (*International Collaborative Program:* )/ 田野畑村(岩手県)

“Promote community revitalization through Kurort health walking! — to enhance residents’ well-being and attract visitors.” (TBD)

This international practice-based extracurricular workshop brings together diverse teams of Japanese and international students at Waseda University.

Schedule

Information sessions will be held online as scheduled below.

All applicants for this workshop must attend an information session.

During the optional Consultation Session, you may ask questions to previous participants or university staff members.

(1) 12:30pm to 1:10pm, Friday, May 29, 2026
(2) 12:30pm to 1:10pm, Wednesday, June 3, 2026
(3) 12:30pm to 1:10pm, Thursday, June 11, 2026
(4) 12:30pm to 1:10pm, Tuesday, June 16, 2026

Part 1: Information Session, 12:30pm to 12:50pm

Part 2: Consultation Session, 12:50pm to 1:10pm

* Each session will cover the same information.

★All sessions will be conducted in Japanese.

* A confirmation email containing the session URL will be sent to applicants after registration.

Deadline: 12:00pm on the day of each session (for example, for session (1), no later than 12:00pm, Friday, May 29, 2026).
