  • For International Students setting up a New Bank Account at a bank. It is not possible to open a bank account without a Waseda University student ID card. This information will be updated around September 21, upon completion of the student ID card distribution. When opening a bank account at a Japanese bank, a personal seal (hanko) is required. We recommend that you prepare your own hanko in advance, before the information is updated.

Scholarship

MEXT Scholarship

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan is accepting applications for government sponsored scholarships for foreign students studying Japanese language and culture in Japanese universities. Students planning to enter Waseda’s Japanese Language Program (JLP) are eligible applicants for this grant, but the recommendation of their home university is required.

  • Scholarship: 117,000 yen per month (tentative) and travel expenses one round trip
  • Period of scholarship: 10 months, from October to July of the following year
  • Application period will be announced via email.
  • Eligibility and conditions: Exchange students who plan to enter Waseda’s Japanese Language Program for one year. This scholarship is only available to undergraduate students. For more details, please download the application requirements in a PDF.

Information on admission for 2025

Due to the delayed release of information from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) compared to previous years, we have selected some partner schools and will provide the necessary information to those schools only. Thank you very much for your understanding.

  • How to apply: All necessary documents must be sent by the partner university to Waseda’s Center for International Education.
  • Internal recommendation results announcement: Late April (tentative)
  • Selection result announcement: Mid July (tentative)
