[TAISI Admission for 2023 Sep Entry] Measures in response to COVID-19

In the face of COVID-19 pandemic, SSS TAISI has decided to take the following measures for 2023 September Entry applicants.

1. University Entrance Qualification Examinations/Standardized Test Waiver

We acknowledge that the pandemic has led to cancellations and postponement of standardized tests/university entrance examinations all over the world. In response to such unprecedented circumstances, the submission of the results of university entrance qualification examinations/standardized tests will be waived for applicants who have difficulties in submitting their test scores.

  • SSS TAISI considers the exam results as an important factor in evaluating the academic ability of applicants. Applicants who have taken/can take the exams are required to submit the exam results to demonstrate their academic ability and potential.
  • However, submission of test scores will be waived in case the applicants cannot submit the test scores due to cancellations, postponement, or any other unavoidable situations caused by COVID-19.
  • Submission of test scores alone will NOT determine the screening result. Document screening will be conducted in a holistic and contextual way, thus applicants will not be unfairly penalized by not submitting the exam results.
  • Applicants who cannot submit the exam results are requested to explain the reason on the designated online application system.  They are also required to upload proof for the reasons why they cannot submit the test scores (e.g. screenshot of an e-mail regarding the cancellation of test, a support letter from high school to prove the cancellation of test etc.). Detailed instructions will be given in the Application Guide.
  • All applicants are still required to submit a document to prove their academic qualifications (e.g. If you are applying as a holder of the following qualifications, you will still be required to submit a certificate to prove your eligibility: International Baccalaureate Diploma, Baccalauréat, Abitur, or General Certificate of Education Advanced Level).

2. English Proficiency Test Accommodations

The basic rules stay the same for English proficiency test scores; the submission will NOT be waived unless you submit results of university entrance qualification examination/standardized test administered for an education system in which the first language is English (such as SAT, ACT, GCE A-level, IBDP entirely taught in English). As a rule, applicants are required to submit the test scores of TOEFL (iBT) or IELTS (Academic) taken at a test center. However, given the complex situations under the COVID-19 pandemic, SSS TAISI will accept TOEFL (iBT) Home Edition ONLY IF access to a testing site is not available due to COVID-19.

  • If you originally planned to submit the results of university entrance qualification examination/standardized test conducted in English but cannot submit the test scores, you are required to submit English proficiency test scores to demonstrate your English proficiency regardless of your native language.
  • Applicants who submit TOEFL (iBT)Home Edition are requested to explain the reason on the designated online application system. They are also required to upload proof for the reasons why they were not able to access the testing site (e.g. screenshot of an e-mail regarding the cancellation of test , a support letter from high school to prove the cancellation of test etc.) . Detailed instructions will be given in the Application Guide.
  • If you cannot submit any of the designated English proficiency test scores, please contact the TAISI Admissions Office well in advance of the application deadline.

The above measures are only effective for TAISI Admission for 2023 September Entry as of 25 August, 2022. The SSS TAISI Admissions Office will continue to carefully observe the influence of the pandemic and may take additional measures.
