[Waseda University × Tokyo Metro × Environment Rodorigues] Upcycling Workshop

— Revitalize discarded materials. Rethinking sustainability for the future — Call for Participants (2025/12/13)

Waseda University’s Hirayama Ikuo Volunteer Center (WAVOC) will co-host an “Upcycling Workshop” with Tokyo Metro as part of our efforts to promote a more sustainable society.
In collaboration with the student circle “Environment Rodorigues” which promotes “students taking the lead and addressing to solutions to environmental issues through diverse approaches” we will organize a hands-on workshop.

As the starting point of this workshop, participants will use waste materials and discarded items generated through Tokyo Metro’s railway operations to explore ideas that create new value from an upcycling perspective-aiming to reduce environmental impact and expand possibilities for resource circulation.

━ Do railway parts, seat fabrics, or uniforms that have fulfilled their original purpose truly have no value left?

Tokyo Metro is working toward a “decarbonized, circular society” by planning and developing upcycled products that make use of these materials. Sustainability is an increasingly vital theme. Not only for the present but also for future generations, Tokyo Metro seeks to become a “planet-friendly company” by reducing CO₂ emissions and waste—serving as a driving force through cooperation with society at large.

With these social challenges in mind, why not team up in groups to propose innovative, creative ideas that break free from conventional practices?

We welcome anyone interested in corporate sustainability initiatives, environmental issues, or joining a volunteer activity for the first time.
We look forward to the participation of students who are eager to tackle social challenges and think deeply about environmental issues.
