Types of Certificates

Listed below are the types of certificates that can be issued by the Center for Japanese Language (CJL).

Different certificates are issued for different programs. Please check your program before requesting a certificate.

* 1 Eligibility requirements

  • Bekka Program Students: students from a 1 year program who enrolled between 1990 and fall 2012
  • Japanese Language Program Students: students from a 1 year or 6 months program who enrolled in spring 2013 or later.
  • Short-term Japanese Program: students from a 3 or 6 week program offered in spring, summer, fall and winter

♦ Waseda summer Japanese Program (Academic Year 1999–2009),

♦ Institute of Language Teaching

Intensive Japanese Language Course, or Advanced Specialized Course in Japanese (Academic Year 1962–2003),

* 2 Transcript of Academic Record/GPA can be issued only for students who enrolled in Academic Year 2010 or later. It cannot be viewed or issued for students who enrolled in Academic Year 2009 or earlier.

How to apply

You or your proxy must bring the following to the CJL office:

  • Valid ID (e.g. driver’s license, medical insurance card, passport, or residence card)
  • Fee (300 yen per copy)

 

How to request a certificate

  1. Present your ID and fill out the Certificate Request Form at the office counter
  2. Purchase handling fee payment tickets for the amount of purchase from the ticket machine in the office

 

Apply at the CJL office (proxy person)

To protect privacy, Waseda University only issues certificates when requested personally. If there is a compelling reason why a request must be made by proxy, the criteria below must be met.

The proxy must bring the following items with them to the office:

  • Power of attorney*  form    Must be original. Copies are not accepted.
  • Copy of a requestor’s ID (e.g. student ID, driver’s license, passport, residence card)
  • Proxy’s ID (e.g. student ID, driver’s license, passport, residence card)
  • Fee per copy (alumni: 300 yen; students: 200 yen)

* If you create your own power of attorney form, include the following information and provide it to the agent:
(1) Your (principal) information: student number (if you are a Waseda University student), name (hand-written), and seal impression or signature (hand-written)
(2) Details of authorization, reasons for authorization, and the name of proxy
(3) Proxy information: student number (if he/she is a Waseda University student), name (hand-written), seal impression or signature (hand-written), relation to the principal, street address, and phone number

How to request a certificate

Please send the following documents to the CJL.

  • Certificate Request Form         Request Form   /   Request Form
  • Copy of a valid ID (e.g. driver’s license, passport, or residence card)

* If you are using your “My Number” card as an ID, send in the copy of only the front side. Do not send the copy of the backside with the number.

  • Money order for the amount of purchase (300 yen × number of certificates)

Available at post offices in Japan. Send a blank money order. Sample

  • Stamp(s) for return mail

You may select regular mail or express mail.

Mailing cost varies with the number of certificates, requirement for proper envelope sealing and type of return mail (regular or express). See the fee page.

How to request a certificate

  • ♦ IRC or IPMO for the amount of purchase (300 yen × number of certificates) and mailing cost

IRC (International Reply Coupon)
Available at post offices. Valued at 130 yen each in Japan.

IPMO (International Postal Money Order)

* We accept only the payment methods described above. We do not accept overseas remittance or credit cards. Thank you for your understanding regarding this matter.

For return mail, you may select Express Mail Service (EMS) or regular airmail.

Mailing cost varies with the number of certificates, requirement for proper envelope sealing, type of return mail (EMS or airmail) and destination. See the fee page.
