Important Notes for Applicants to the Japanese Language Program

** [Important Notice] For those who need to apply for a status of residence **

There is an important notice of application documents change regarding applications related to status of residence. Please make sure to check the following two documents before application.

** Japan Pre-Entry Tuberculosis Screening ** 

Applicants who hold nationality from the Philippines / Vietnam / Indonesia / Nepal / Myanmar / China are required to submit the “Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance Certificate” in addition to the normal Certificate of Eligibility (COE) application documents to prove that you are not infected with TB. The date this rule takes effect differs depending on your nationality, so please be sure to check the details from the following document if you are eligible.

Students currently enrolled in the JLP who wish to apply for continued enrollment should submit their application via the website below.

  • Only currently enrolled JLP students need to review the “Admission Guidelines for Currently Enrolled JLP Students”.

Preparation for Online Application

To prepare for the online application to the Japanese Language Program (JLP), please review the following instructions that must be entered and submitted via TAO. Please also create a personal account in advance on the online application system, “The Admissions Office (TAO).”

Note

If applicants plan to submit certificates from Chinese schools, be sure to review the following instructions before applying.

How to Apply OnlineJapanese Language Program (April 2027)

Applicants for this program MUST apply through online. Please follow the instruction below and complete the Online Application during the designated period. An application is accepted when both Payment of Screening Fee and Submission of Application Documents are completed within the application period.

(1) Payment of Screening Fee October 1 (Thu), 2026, 0:00 – 16:00, October 8 (Thu), 2026 (Japan Standard Time)
(2) Submission of Application Documents October 1 (Thu), 2026, 10:00 – 16:00, October 8 (Thu), 2026 (Japan Standard Time)

(1) Screening Fee Payment

Access one of the following pages within the application period. For details on the payment methods, please refer to pages 10-11 of the Admissions Guidelines.

※Even if someone other than the applicant makes the payment, the applicant’s information must be entered.

(2) Submission of Application Documents

Please follow the instruction below and submit the required documents and information via TAO (The Admissions Office) at https://admissions-office.net/en/portal within the application period.

  • Amount of time required:45-60 minutes  ※Refer to the “Preparation for Online Application” section at upper part of this page in advance and prepare the required documents and answers.

Application Documents

The following document must be submitted on the designated form. Please refer to page 15 of the Admissions Guidelines for details.

  • If you would like to apply for JLP as an exchange student, please visit CIE(Center for International Education) website for further information.
  • If you would like to apply for JLP as a MEXT (Japanese Government) Scholarship student, please visit MEXT website or the Japanese Embassy in your country for further information.
